How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Quite far from town and taxis are expensive

the outdoor chill area was closed at the evening around 7 pm.
the property is really huge and has a variety of different area, e.g. indoor chill area, outdoor bar and chill area, quiet room, laundry, kitchen…

the staff from the bar are unfriendly except Chris you have to wait a long time to order and get your drink, the cashier needs a long time, idk why. they cannot change your bills, because they haven’t change in the register. you have to pay at the cashier, one step more to get your drink, when you sit on a right swing. once at Happy Hour, i got only one drink less, because supposedly I came to early, I showed them in my Apple Pay that not the truth is, still I didn’t get it, I spent 250 dollar at the bar, in 5 days, and I don’t give the drink, seriously? I been the 2. time here, the staff last time was very friendly,but they changed almost the whole staff… nevertheless, I like the hostel very much and I extended 2 days more (the Happy Hour mistake was on the last day)

The bar/pool was closed very early. We couldn't even dinner here. There is a small kitchen that you can use yourself. It is way too small for such a big hostel. Not really places to chill...
The sleeping facilities were really good.

the staff was not as friendly (some were amazing, others seemed mega unmotivated)
the facilities are great, the 8 bed dorm was probably the best designed dorm room I have ever seen! very comfy beds and very quiet at night :) the lounge area invites to chill and meet new people

I didn't like that the staff told us we had to leave the seating area after 11pm, even if we didn't make any noise

Don't close the bar at 7
Breakfast is not worth it. Plenty of food within a few minutes walking. Downtown is not far away. They used to have a great bar setup but now it closes at 7pm which is useless because that is when everyone meets at the bar.

The water in this place is bad. it feels like you are bathing in seawater. So salty that I couldn't brush my teeth with that water. Another issue is the temperature in the room. The air conditioning was set to 25C, so the room was always very hot. Another thing that surprised me was the manager's unwillingness to allow me to move to another room before my check-in time (since I had been in the hostel for two days), and there were two empty beds in my friend's room, which I would like to switch to. So that's it, they won't make an exception for you even if you choose to renew your stay with them. It was disappointing.
This hostel has a great atmosphere. The bar has good food and drink options, and most of the employees are friendly. The cleaning is very good.

A few extra sun loungers by the pool would be great, but overall the outdoor space is a great setup
Modern, clean and with loads of place to socialise or chill out. Dorms are spacious with lots of privacy for beds and powerful showers in bathrooms with hot water at all hours :)

Staff was not knowledgeable about the area. Bathrooms could be cleaner.
I liked the location, the outstanding breakfasts, the fact that the bed was so comfortable. The privacy guests have: rooms have built-in pods rather than bunk beds.

Great staff, great people. The dorms are super modern. I was in a 12 bedroom dorm, but honestly it did not feel like it. The cut of the room is really smart, so you had the feeling you are only with 5 others in this huge room. Two toilets, two bathrooms. Everything super clean. Enough storage in the beds and for the backpack. Super nice pool with pool parties. Overall 10/10 can recommend!

we used the shuttle service they provided a link to and it never showed up at the airport and they refused to give us a refund DO NOT BOOK THE SHUTTLE SERVICE. everything else about Mayan monkey was 10/10
