Too much party until too late And the guy that was as cashier in the restaurant was not nice at all

Service from staff was poor. Not friendly, avoided having to interact and help you with things. Don’t listen to what you are ordering or asking for. For example the soap in all dispensers were empty for 48hrs. I had to ask 3 times to get them refilled. The door latch on the dorm I was in was getting stuck constantly and not actually closing the door so it would sound an alarm that was irritating and disruptive. This also raised a security issue. We, as a room, tried to fix it best we could however when I asked for help and for the maintenance team to look at the door I was ignored and dismissed saying that it was fine. Service was not helpful, reception didn’t say that the laundry was broken during checkin, and didn’t suggest a business elsewhere I could go and basically had an “I don’t care” attitude. Reception didn’t offer to show me around the property or explain where the kitchen was, the common areas, the water refill station, or the co-working space. Most hostels I’ve stayed in do this which is a nice touch and helps get acquainted with the space. The service at the bar and restaurant was poorly organised, food and drinks were incorrect, missing, or forgotten about. Staff were evasive, you’d stand at the bar waiting to be served for breakfast or dinner despite the bartender standing 2 meters away and looking as if they are avoiding you. Really strange service. Music was way too loud as well. I understand for the night time it works but at 8am during breakfast it was a bit harsh.

People were asked to post a review in return for a shot at the bar. Explains the high # of ratings… The room had a funky smell. Air conditioner did not work as it should have, it leaked water and caused this smell.

Fun atmosphere. Very social at the bar area at nights. Party stops at 12 normally so it gets quiet after and you don’t have to worry about it being loud all night.

I stayed in Mayan Monkey Tulum a few weeks ago. I am an experienced solo female traveller. I'd like to warn you. Though I felt safe in the first place as they have security guards and cameras everywhere, they allowed some strange type of people to stay in the dorms as well. One person in particlar made me feel quite unsafe in his behavior towards me - and me and other persons have complained about this person. On top of that my favorite warm jacket got stolen inside the hostel room - for which someone climbed into(!) my top bunk bed to grab it from under the pillow. Curtains were closed and the beds are high up, so you couldn't see it unless you'd completely climb inside the bed. I felt very disturbed in my owns space. They left some other things like ugly pyjamas... However, the way the staff handled the situation wasn't right and very unprofessional. They made me feel like it was my fault, like I would have lost it somewhere. Someone else in the room got stuff stolen from their bed too. It has been a great hassle to get the camera images of who entered the room when I was away doing my groceries - it needs to go through a third party so the hostel itself doesn't even have access to the camera footage. The theft must have been between 3pm to 5h30 or so... I never got a proper answer to my request and no reimbursement or anything to come forward and show they cared. The email I received from them after following up on the incident was absolutely one of the most unprofessional ones ever. Facility wise it is a great hostel, clean and great for meeting other solo travelers. As I have always worked in the hotel industry myself I always try to leave a review. It hurts me that this is such a bad one, as I have never had a bad experience like this before. But their customer service dealing with issues really needs improvement!

When we first arrived we noticed the shower door was falling off, and it took more than twenty-four hours to fix it. Music was blasting painfully loud during the happy hour. We stayed in a private room and could hear the music pounding until 1 a.m. We were hoping to sleep well and do the 8:00 a.m. yoga, but we didn't manage to fall asleep until 2:00 a.m., so we couldn't wake up as early as we wanted to. Both nights other people staying at the hostel were being loud after midnight and kept us awake. The first night it was the people in the room above us playing music and talking at 2:00 a.m., and I had to go ask the security guard to tell them to be quiet. The second night a guy right outside our room was yelling insults at another guest and trying to start a fight with him, and I had to go get the security again. Also a mentally ill guest repeatedly insulted me in front of staff and they didn't tell her to calm down or intervene on my behalf at all.

This is a cool building with good drinks and food, and the bicyle rental is nice.

The music is so loud it reaches the room. I wouldn't go back there again. The kitchen is dirty too. Location is odd, not close enough to walk to the beach. It's 25 mins from the old town, due to the heat it makes it hard to do that walk.

Good service from staff, generally clean but the dorms toilet and shower needs to be checked twice a day toilet paper often runs out. Rooms had a AC and privacy, good amount of space too

The water in the Pool was actually not nice. They have strict rules. I prefer more Cozy hostels with a nice vibe feeling more involved in good Nights, good exchange and surrounded by interesting people

Upon checked in we had asked the reception regarding the activities they offered and we were recommended the ‘beach activities’ occurring the following day. We asked if there was a cost involved to which we were told no and completed the check in and moved onto our room. When we returned the following day to go to the beach activities we were told 1. There was an outstanding charge from check in and we owed further money which we were not aware off or told about upon check in. 2. That in order to do the beach activity we had to hire a bike from the hostel which was 200 pesos. Again we were told the day before there was no cost involved in this. Due to an incident that occurred on our first night the pool and bar area were closed for three days which was disappointing as this was a key feature for why we choice this property. After the incident occurred we were all sent to our rooms and told not to come out until the morning. When we came out for breakfast there was no communication regarding where this was to take place as the pool and bar area was blocked off for access. When we asked the staff what was happening with this their response was ‘I don’t know’. We tried to ask the staff multiple times about what was going on with the space and when we would be able to utilise this are and their response every time continued to be ‘I don’t know’ which was extremely frustrating. There was then an email sent out the following day noting ‘the pool area was closed until further notice due to maintenance’ which we all knew was not the case as we were there when the incident occurred. The communication and attitude of the staff was a HUGE disappointment to us which cause so much frustration for us when staying at Mayan monkey. There was a WhatsApp group that we joined upon arrival which was used by staff to promote the activities each day. This continued to promote the activities each day even after the incident had occurred.

Room was very clean and tidy! It had a large bed with tv (Netflix stan everything included). The bathroom within our room as well as the common areas were very tidy and well presented. Presentation of the property was very nice. Especially liked the quiet area and the look and feel of this space.

They pump out pretty bad tunes at night time, so if you want more of an early night, or to just chill out, this place isn't for you. I was there for 4 nights, and had to move rooms 3 times. This place is not for light sleepers!

The location is perfect as it's on the beach road and on the edge of town, so best of both worlds.

1) Bike rental service is terrible. Bikes are TRASH.Dont waste your money on these. Walking is more efficient than riding these bikes. NOTE FOR THE HOTEL MANAGEMENT: This guy renting the bikes. What is his job? Sitting there the whole day and watching TikTok? Why doesn't he fix or at least clean the bikes while there are no customers? 2) Tap water is salty and tastes very weird. Not even suitable for toothbrushing. It is questionable if this water is safe. 3) The location makes no sense for a tourist. Neither close to the beach/cenote, nor the city (restaurants etc.) 4) I had no internet for an entire week. The wifi disconnects every five seconds. Besides, even the biggest sim card operator in Mexico (telcel) does not have signal over there.

The staff (the manager) is incredibly rude, unhelpful, and unprepared. All the bikes were broken and super unsafe, but they tried to rent them anyway. Its a party place so super noisy

There was a constant party for teenagers so if you are willing to get some rest - forget. Either the music will not let you sleep or the party people coming back to the room.

The bathing water was salty, as if it's coming stratight from ocean. Also, staff was very rude, and inefficient. Mayan Monkey Cancun was totally opposite and way better.

In the hostel there is an ATM and it is not clear that it is in US dollars and the fees charge is 20%. I was cheated out of €79 in fees. It’s terrible and quite shocking that a hostel is scamming their guests.

When I got there they tried to make me Pay a signifficantly higher sum than in the App, saying I need to go to Mayan.com for pricing, and that what you book on Booking.com is not right. This was almost midnight. I felt extremely uncomfortable with the experience. I had a budget for my trip. This was so u fair. I had to book another accommodation in haste since it was almost Midnight. I have been trying to contact customer service. I have written so many times, no reply. SHAME ON You. I lost 2 days of my trip.

It is less spacious than it looks in the pictures. The isolation is not great, given every night there is loud music from 5 PM to 1 AM.

Good location; it is located between beaches and the city. (I highly recommend renting a bicycle). The staff is helpful and accommodating. The hostel offers multiple events during the day, including trips, yoga, parties.

The second we entered the reception, it was very negative. No smiles, no hello, barely any acknowledgement. This place is incredibly overrated. Everything is heavily overpriced. The reception staff (female with pixie cut) is very very rude. I heard multiple complaints about her also. It was far away from the beach and town. All the shops and restaurants nearby were also expensive.

The loud music

The woman in the reception that helped us change from noisy room 402 to less noisy room 406 - I’m so bad with names but I know it starts with ‘B’. She also put an effort into finding our lost charging cable - excellent customer service 🙏😊. Other staff at the place should learn from you. The quiet space besides the kitchen was great - except when the music from the party area was so loud that it wasn’t quiet at all
