Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

EstoniaBartenders (men) should be more friendly. They look too arrogant and impolite. One of them at the beach bar pointedly did not notice some people standing in line. It looked strange.
We love Riu hotels since we had been to RIU in Costa Rica a few years ago. Excellent choice of dishes. Nice beach with clean sea. Large and very clean rooms with a cupboard where you can find 4 large bottles of tequila, vodka, rum, etc., which are refilled every 3 days. There are capybaras and monkeys in the garden. Very friendly and courteous staff at the main restaurant.

United KingdomWORST HOTEL STAY OF MY LIFE! PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! ROOM HAD LOADS OF COCKROACHES, RACOONS EVERYWHERE IN THE RESORT STEALING YOUR FOOD, RUDE RECEPTION STAFF, FACILITIES & FOOD TERRIBLE, AND RESORT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE BEACH! NOT SURE HOW THEY EVEN GOT 5*? THE RUDEST RECEPTION STAFF I HAVE EVER MET IN MY LIFE: UPON ARRIVAL DID NOT EVEN EXPLAIN ANYTHING ABOUT THE RESORT. WHEN WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE COCKROACHES IN THE ROOM THEY DISMISSED IT BY SAYING 'ITS NORMAL WE HAD TO OPEN A HOLE ON THE GARDEN' - NOT EVEN A SINGLE APOLOGY. THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE AND THE RESORT IS FAR AWAY FROM THE BEACH. PLEASE DONT STAY HERE!
Only the restaurant bar staff was nice

United Arab EmiratesMore facilities to use. For example only sports facilities were a single tennis court and a mediocre gym. No jogging or walking trails, no pickleball or other sport activities, no snorkel and fins or paddle boards etc provided if you were going to the beach. Getting through to the front desk for information in advance was difficult and they didn’t provide any information. For example no regular shuttle bus service from and to the airport - we had to take taxis. The shuttle bus to the beach was completely full in the mornings so we had to take taxis. There is a mid day gap in service for the beach shuttle so again we had to use taxis. Generally staff were not able to communicate in English.
Meals were good Basic facilities were fine - pool, bar, restaurant.

MexicoNot a 5 stars hotel. Not a 5 stars. It has got the Riu name but not a resort worth the name. Old, mold-smelling rooms. Villas that were bought by the chain and are offered as something that is not the real thing. Far from beach, you hace to take a bus and ride 15 min to the beachclub next to the real Riu resorts. Then the access is like a staff entry passage, only for Lupita "guests". Only one buffet working restaurant, the other 2 are for 20 people and always full. Worst receptionists ever. Worst client service. Added 10k mxn for a 5 yr old child. Old moldy rooms, old smelly mattresses. Not worth at all.

Riu Lupita is one of the best hotels in Playa del Carmen. Food, drinks, activities, and the experience, in general, are worth the cost. Try to don't miss booking the dinner in the steakhouse.

BelgiumI went with my husband and 2.5 year old son and we really enjoyed our stay at Riu Lupita. Staff were amazing, from front desk to maids to restaurants! It's a nice laid back resort that's good for families or any age group. Lots of activities throughout the day for everyone and entertainment every night was good also. There is a separate section for kids, Riu Land, with children's activities every hour from 10am. We went during Children's Day in Mexico, without knowing so there was a lot of families with kids. They had a big parry for kids on that day, making tye dye t shirts, face painting, foam party, music food etc. My son really enjoyed Riu Land playground, mini pool and various activities. Food was very good, with a variety. I don't eat meat but I had plenty of vegeterian options at each meal. Therere is Italian and Meixo a la cart restaurant that you don't need any reservation for and the steakhouse at the beach that you need to reserve on the day you want to go right at 7am at the main buffet restaurant. We tried the Mexican only and preferred the main buffet instead. The pool was nice and clean, right at the centre of the resort by the bar. Resort was always lively and had a good vibe with different entertainment during the day by the pool. The beach is about 8 mins drive with the bus at Riu Palace and it was so beautiful! Not much seaweeds when we went, surprisingly. I guess they're cleaning it all the time. You have to take your beach towel from the resort (by the pool). The bus comes every 30 minutes to and from the resort, which isn't bad. The beach club is also very nice with a bar, lots of snacks and restaurants, tea, coffee, icecream and even some hot food. There's enough loungers, DJ, beach activies etc. Our vacation was perfect.

CanadaI booked this for my client. Unfortunately it was not as described on booking.com I thought I was getting my client a beachfront resort just as seen. In the main picture and it was a 15 min drive. The pictures were a false representation of the hotel. The pool looks nothing like the pictures that are posted for this hotel nor did the room. The staff was fully understanding of my clients disappointment and tried to upgrade her to their sister hotels but they were understandably full booked as RIU is a great brand. My client just got unlucky on this trip. It happens
