We ended up staying here last minute when we missed the last ferry to Moyogalpa of the day and ended up taking the last ferry to San Jose. They so graciously accepted the booking request we made at 7pm from the ferry and immediately sent us instructions on how to walk there from the ferry(only 7 mins away down a sandy path). They welcomed us into a room that night saving our butts!! The hosts were so amazing and made us feel welcome, they even cooked us a meal after they were finished for dinner because nothing else was open late, which we were so grateful for!! Dinner that night and breakfast the next day was delicious! Their pups were really sweet and friendly too. They also helped us get a tuktuk to our next spot the following day. We are sooo grateful for Hostal Xilotl and are happy our mishaps led us here!!

We stayed here for four nights and had a really good experience. It’s a bit off-grid, but the neighborhood is very safe, and the hostess is incredibly kind! There were some ants in the room in the evening because they could come under the door, but they are working on that and it’s wasn’t really a bother because it’s not during the day or night. Our room had a fan and a private bathroom. We were also able to use the laundry area in the back. The food was delicious, we had both breakfast and dinner here, and it was very affordable and delicious. You can rent a scooter, but we got around by bus. The location is close to Charco Verde and Ojo de Agua, but quite far from Playa Mangos and El Pital. If you don’t want to rent a scooter like us, we’d recommend taking a tuk-tuk for those places. May (the hostess) even taught me some Spanish words and phrases and explained everything about the island. She is truly so sweet!

A few minor things, but the hospitality by Merlin could cover everything up... and more... I would 100% recommend this place as a base to explore the island...

Great lonely host. Food was delicious and reasonable priced. Many different animals in the.garden. We rent a bike to explore the location, which is conveniently next to the port but far away from noisy overcrowded touristic vipes.. All ecological natural and clean....

Better for a short term stay as no facilities like food or breakfast. We stayed in a busier part of the island for the majority but moved here to be near the port for ferry back

Lovely little hostel with very friendly staff. Perfect location if you want to stay near the ferry port. Great value and had a private en suite room here for same price as a dorm elsewhere

Nothing really, did have power outage at night so we the fans didn’t work, but that is common on Ometepe.

The woman who is at the front desk was so kind and helpful.

I had a great time staying here. First, it was only a five minute walk from the San José del Sur ferry port and very easy to find. It was quaint and cosy, and the rooms had everything you need including a fan that kept me cool at night. The patio was nice and included rocking chairs to relax in, and it was peaceful at night with fairy lights in the garden. The food was delicious, very reasonably priced, and the staff was very accommodating to make a vegetarian menu for me. I also recommend the guided tour! For a fair price you get to choose 4 guided spots to visit in a day. Also a 25-ish minute walk from Charco Verde and easy to find. Well worth it! I would certainly come back here and had a wonderful time.
