Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThe room was okay, but a bit dated. It was comfortable enough for us, though there was no cold water in the shower. We organised a transfer from the airport, but the transfer did not show (even though we waited and looked for someone holding a sign).
Breakfast was nice and not too expensive. We enjoyed the local vibe of the hotel and how well it was located. It made it very easy for our driver and our guide to find us and we didn't feel out of place

EstoniaLot of construction in next house which made a lot of noise. Rooms weren’t that soundproof so a lot of noise came from corridors.
Location was in a quiet street in Thamel. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was okay and they made also eggs/omelette when you asked. AC was good and didn’t make a lot of noise.

AustraliaHotel room smelt like cigarettes Windows were left open when I checked in, I imagine to try let out the smell. Breakfast was tasty but same breakfast choices every morning. Wifi only works in your room. Every room has their own wifi to connect to.
Arrived early and staff were able to check me in to the room when I arrived. Bathroom was nice, provided new toothbrushes, pressure was good in shower.

AustraliaThe price on booking.com showed a discount when I was looking, but then we ended up paying about $75 aus more than expected. I made a query at reception, but the manager was curt and suggested we could cancel if we weren't happy. He wasn't friendly and was quite dismissive. I didn't like the smell of cigarette smoke wafting up from the bar downstairs- (we were on the first floor). This happened every time we opened our windows for 'fresh air'. This was disappointing.

NepalCleanliness could have been better especially the room smell. It was not dirty per se but was smelling of old clothes/dust. Some room freshner would have helped. Bathroom shower pod had no barrier and water was flowing all over the floor. This could have been managed with a barrier and different drainage system.
Breakfast was not so attractive but I would say okay. Had choice of Indian and continental. The contents were just paratha, chatni and curd with tea/cofee, corn flakes and juice.

JapanThe breakfast was sometimes slow to arrive and occasionally orders were mixed up. Milk or cups for coffee would run out and we had to find a waiter to tell him. Staff were all friendly, but service in this regard has room for improvement.
The breakfasts were filling and tasty, although sometimes a little slow to arrive. Masala tea was a bonus every morning! Staff were friendly and helpful.

United KingdomToo far from our friends in Balkot, Bhaktapur and we had to get too many taxis so decided to go and stay with our friends - this is the only reason we left the hotel early.
The staff were super friendly and helpful. The receptionist was really lovely. The location was perfect for me and my 5 year old son…. in the heart of Thamal but hidden away in a little dude street so we had peace and quiet at night time. The super king size bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. We loved the quaint rooftop too. with stunning plants. I was so impressed and shocked when the hotel said we only had to pay for what we stayed - this never happens with booking.com. and it was only because of the distance to our friends location that we cut our stay short. So any hotel that offers this service will definitely get a high rating from me and I will be booking this hotel again.

IndiaA part of it was under construction, and there were construction sounds throughout the day. It’s manageable though. Also, the property didn’t have an elevator for some weird reason. After trekking for 15 days, I had to go to my room after climbing 4 floors, it caused some minor discomfort.
Good location, good room with a view, cleanliness of the property, and a good breakfast in the morning. The staff was super friendly and cooperative too.

NepalI had a huge expectation with Durban hotel but was disappointed big time. The staffs are horrible, please fire them already, if you are in hospitality business and you don’t know the term “Service” then I suggest to change your business. Staffs are very lazy and feels like they don’t care about the guests at all. The rooms were not properly cleaned, and any request we made was either ignored or took forever to be addressed. This is not the kind of experience anyone would expect, especially from a supposedly reputable hotel. If they don’t improve their service and staff attitude, they’ll end up losing customers. Worst staff ever encountered, fire them already
