I had no problem with this very good hotel for this affordable price, convenient location near sites I carefully chose. Wonderful driver Mr. Prasod and perfect front desk staff who carefully catered to all my requests for unique tours. I slept as deeply as a happy baby partly because I have a severe hearing loss (from military service from a young age) so I can't really be woken at night by loud tour van late-night arrivals in the courtyard below our rooms (we tried 2 rooms). My wife, however, demanded we change hotels after a few nights to try different hotels nearby for a better sleep (bad idea; other hotels had black water in a tap). My wife was upset that some loud European groups of rowdy happy trekkers are very loud in early morning, and some white people drink a lot of beer, smoking strong cigarettes (smoke smells bad drifting to your window) late into night or early morning in an understandably festive mood on vacation (vacation is a happy time to celebrate of course). One loudest group of package tourists (very friendly bunch) who arrived to stay for a few days were all from the same Indian corporation, all wearing a big Indian national flag on their matching shirts to show team affiliation and easy to identify as a team in a big crowd (smart idea when climbing a mountain or navigating a crowded city bazaar or market) were doing a cheerleading chant very loudly in the courtyard as a part of their shared happy vacation before departing Hotel Thamel in early morning. Not cool. Not considerate to all those still asleep. Clueless inconsideration. So my amazingly patient gentle wife (Thai) absolutely insisted we switch hotels. This very friendly hotel was so popular and full, they were not able to give us our originally promised room with a private balcony on the quieter side of the hotel away from the courtyard. We did pay for a balcony room, but could not have it. I'm flexible when traveling in Asia.

Excellent buffet breakfast. Well-dressed front-gate guards greet you with a crisp proper military salute if you will return their salute. Very clean restaurant in immaculately clean lobby. The neighborhood is very, very safe 24/7 and we walked the streets late into the night for great inexpensive food and souvenir shopping. Nepali people of Hotel Thamel and all Kathmandu neighborhoods are absolutely considerate, keep warm strong eye contact, smiling, safe, helpful, friendly, pro-visitor, welcoming to outsiders, love tourists, speak very polite English like classy native speakers better than in my country. Hotel Thamel's wonderful, friendly, classy, warm, funny staff are extremely helpful and take care of all our special requests like when we requested a unique tour by SUV or jeep (private driver Mr. Prasod is perfect safe driver for our tours) of the 10 wealthiest residential neighborhoods of the capital city (spread all over Kathmandu). The beautiful and classy and smartly dressed front-desk staff were a welcome thing to see after our long days walking around the city. The beds were perfect, exactly the way we love a high-quality firm mattress, very solid thick excellent mattress for an amazing night sleep. Very hot water 24/7, big shower. At this bargain price, for a hotel in Nepal's capital city, and especially a neighborhood with this excitement and amazing shopping for trekking gear and Everest tours, this price is a bargain. Avocado Cafe and The Thamel Hotel nearby across the alley have very good affordable sit-down restaurant food as well; Hotel Thamel's entire neighborhood has good food, good people, great hot lattes, coffees, shopping, shrines, temples, local bus, taxies, 24/7 police, safe clean pubs that open at night, tons of good photo opportunities.

we visited hotel twice ;) because we like it so much , but second time we stayed on higher floor. in the morning there are many trackers starting their journey, and noise from the front can be disturbing. ( we stayed first on the first floor) . But second time we stayed on 5 floor and we didn’t hear any noise .

amazing location and surprisingly quiet. considering that you stay in the middle of Thamel possibility of late check out pick from airport works perfect really comfortable beds also for tall people good shower - well after trekking for many days , shower with strong pressure was amazing . But after the shower everything will wet including toilet which one is next to it, but we didn’t mind internet works good breakfast ok whole day and night there is security guard , which will welcome you everyday with big smile and will wish a great day lift

The Hotel is located in the city center, close to the restaurants, souvenir shops. We had a great stay, the staff works wonderfully, super cortoeus, polite and helpful. Hands down to the manager named Karma, he took care of us from the arrival to the airport till the last minute in Hotel. Will be coming back for sure! Namaste!
