Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere wasn't anyone to welcome us when we arrived so checking in was a bit confusing, but once we realised we just had to walk up to the desk and use the tablets to check ourselves in it all made sense and was easy.
We were looking for a cheap place to stay as we were going on the Hobbiton Tour the next day and needed to be picked up from a central Auckland Hotel (but didn't want to pay hotel prices!). So we booked a private room and it was perfect for what we needed, comfy bed, towels, private space and access to big bathrooms/showers (which were shared but were nice and clean and empty). The bar and cafe downstairs was vibey, we wished we could have had a drink or breakfast there in the morning but were in too much of a rush!

Brazilthe room space was too small for 4 people, the bathrooms could have more hooks and places to hang clothes.
The Hostels location is great, close to the sky tower and the Harbour, in addition to several supermarkets and local shops nearby. the room I stayed in was nice and comfortable too. bathrooms were ok.

SwitzerlandAs nice as the rooms and the whole place are, it's noisy. We heard conversations and alarms (from the private rooms next to us?), at some point there was somebody (from the staff?) walking around shouting over a megaphone. The bar downstairs, which is completely open to the Lylo, does not seem to have any insulation whatsoever and on the night of our stay hosted a dj (which we did not know in advance). It contrasted with the Lylo's request that we should be considerate of other guests from 10pm. A minute thing in the bathroom: Unlike the space in front of the toilet, the raised shower does not have any anti-slip protection. Might be helpful, as the first seconds can otherwise get very slippery.
We booked a night at Lylo before heading out to the airport the next morning. Before checking in, we deposited our luggage in the luggage room (locked). At 3pm, we checked in (a staff member was there and offered to take care of it) and got assigned a room (we had booked a private queen and requested a quiet room). 228 is a corner room next to the chill-out room on the second floor. – The next morning we checked out and again left our luggage in the luggage room for a few hours until heading to the airport. The room was very functional yet spacious and cleverly designed (lots of storage space). The bed was very comfortable, we slept really well. All good with shower, sink, toilet etc.

United KingdomThe laundry is a bit expensive, the pods did get quite warm and it can be a bit anti social in the rooms because of the pods.
The overall look of the hostel is really cool, it’s very clean, the beds are comfortable, the showers are good and the bar is fun.

United KingdomThey played music from 9:30am until 9:30pm in all areas including corridors outside your bedroom. The windowless rooms also became a bit claustrophobic after a few days so wouldn’t recommend staying for longer than that.
Great location with good facilities. The communal areas were great and the kitchen was big enough for you to be able to cook whenever you wanted. Beds were comfy too and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The 24/7 reception was also a big bonus if you’re arriving late into Auckland.

New ZealandNot having a window meant the room was a bit stuffy and pitch black. Didn't realise there was no tea or coffee provided.

New ZealandLoved my stay here!! Such a funky vibe, soo modern, vibrant. Smells great, has nice plants and pictures and decor that has an awesome feel to it! Pods are super comfy and private, blocks out all light with the blinds, charger inside and pockets to store valuables. Soo much space. Bathroom feels like some luxe dressing room with the plush chairs and mirrors for your makeup! Nicest hostel I’ve stayed at in Nz and I’ve travelled all over north and South Island!! Staff were also really friendly and helpful. Thank you Lylo :))

New ZealandThere were corners of my pod that had definitely gathered dust and hadn't been cleaned. I also wish all lockers were on the ground as I couldn't easily lift my suitcase into mine.
Pods should be a staple of all city hostels. Two outlets as well as USB connector, many places to store things in the pod, good sized locker, and darkness at night! Brand new hostels with very clean facilities, large hallways and a lot of spaces to hang out on all the floors. Step-less access which made it easy with a suitcase. Staff was helpful at getting me checked in and out, and the self-check in machines also worked really well.
