Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandUnfortunately checkin did not go smoothly. We had booked 2 rooms to accomodate our group of 2 couples. Only 1 of the rooms was allocated at checkin. This was later resolved but we paid more than what was quoted on the booking.com platform with the overall confusion of treying to find the other room (booked under the same name and booking number). So we are still trying to resolve that issue. Another issue however occured during our stay (on the day of our checkout)- The second couple were woken at 6am to water leaking through the ceiling from the floor above onto their bed. They called the after hours number but as the office didnt open until after 8am and the room eventually inspected, there was nothing that could be done. We were so excited to be staying at The Convent Hotel for our daughters wedding but overall this boutique accommodation did not meet our expectations.
Great location not far from cafes and shops. Loved the decorating in the rooms. One of our rooms was changed and upgraded as there was an issue with a leaking shower that needed maintenance. We were very grateful for the upgrade as we got to experience truely what the Convent had to offer - a room with a balcony, a small kitchenette, and a larger space for our group of 2 couples to get together.

United StatesThe hotel is a bit off the beaten track, so there weren’t as many dining options within walking distance compared to the CBD. While there is a restaurant on-site, it was closed during our stay. We chose The Convent Hotel for its proximity to Mt. Eden, which we walked to the next day. One thing to note—there is no elevator, so be prepared to carry your luggage upstairs.
Our room was very clean and comfortable. We especially appreciated the hotel’s unique decor, which paid homage to its religious roots with an added playful, artistic touch. The staff was polite and welcoming, and we appreciated that they accommodated our request for a later check-out. Overall, a memorable and enjoyable experience!

AustraliaLocal cafes are not that local, I think in time it will come.
I loved the building, and the small bit of the history of the building I could get from people. I'd loved to have had more info on the history, perhaps a brochure or book. Loved the decor, it was very well put together, great little bar, great restaurant and staff.

United KingdomWe were given a room on the ground floor right by the main front door, which meant that we could hear the comings and goings of guests, both from opening and closing the front door and talking in the echoey corridor. For the price we paid, I was not expecting this. For the price and the elevated nature of this hotel, I would have liked the option of breakfast too.
Convenient location, clean and comfortable rooms, beautiful hotel, very welcoming and friendly staff. Close enough to walk to Ponsonby area (25mins) which has great food and shopping spots.

United KingdomThe room was on the small side for us with two large suitcases and two carry on's. The area around the a/c vent was a little dirty.
It is a lovely place. Bed was really comfortable and cozy. Temperature was fine for us but there's no thermostat in the room. The room was quiet even though our room (no 14) was next to the stairs. The restaurant was amazing (we lucked out it seems and walked in on our first night..9pm ish). The food was up there with some of the best we've ever eaten, that was the general consensus of the four of us. That included an retired chef and two that have dined in 1 & 2 Michelin starred establishments. Auckland is laid back and cool imo.

New ZealandNot much room to get around the bed was about the only issue we had, and the weather was super hot so we could have done with a fan due to the rooms being centrally controlled. Other than that, it was too cool for words.
What an incredible location - visually, thematically and proximity to Ponsonby and central Auckland. Stunning artwork and the little details were extra special. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Such a pleasant vibe.
