How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

I loved how clean and comfortable it was. It's in a beautiful location and the view of Virginia Lake is stunning from the path behind the house. The bathroom is excellent, and we absolutely loved the showers. Great value for money and a very friendly host, which is really appreciated.

Quiet, super clean, spacious, close to lake to walk around! Hosts wonderful even moved my car ready to go for the morning as needed to be turned around!

I'd have preferred toast bread rather than the buns provided (but the breakfast was a bonus anyway so only very minor feedback).
The location was quiet and the unit was warm with a large, comfy bed. The big double bathroom was nice, and would be very handy for a couple. It was nice to have a light breakfast option - cereal and fruit, tea and coffee - offered. Alka was a great host who met me at the unit even though I was late arriving, and was quick and responsive with all communications.

Can't think of anything.
Lovely host. Comfortable, clean, and spacious room. Ideal location as the property has access to a lake, which was a lovely walk. We have no hesitation in recommending this as a place to stay, and we will definitely book again if we visit Whanganui.

It was lovely being by the park and surrounded by big beautiful trees. Everything was clean and well placed, and spacious. Plus we could sit outside to have breakfast, which was lovely.

Tucked away in a quiet suburban setting to the west of the city centre this air conditioned garden flat has all the amenities for a very comfortable stay. The bed was excellent, and access to the forest and lake was a bonus. Our hostess was welcoming and charming, and made sure that we settled in with a minimum of fuss.

Everything was great. The park and lake backing onto the property was really nice. We had a lovely walk after breakfast. Bed was comfy. Bathroom was modern and shower was great.

We knew the area well, but others might find the location too far from town. The suite is suitable for two, but I wouldn't describe it as "large". The breakfast area makes very efficient use of a small space.
Alka was a wonderful host, and took great care of us. The breakfast was simple but sumptuous, and easy access to the Virginia Lake Reserve is a real bonus.

Very nice location, a bit out of the city but close to lake Victoria with nice walk. Big room, well equipped, nice bathroom, all very clean. Breakfast is self service in the room. Value for money! Nice terras, for yourself. Alka is very friendly and gives good tips.

The only fault was the floor of the shower which is quite slippery, and it is a bit out of the shopping centre. Okay if you have a car to get there.
Very pleasant accomodation, well set up with stylish and comfortable accomodation. The breakfast provided was very nice and comprehensive.

Believed there was going to be a view of Virginia lake from the room. However entry to the lake walkway was directly through the back yard.

the super king bed had a large base that I tripped over

Suite was sparkling clean and fresh, quality linens, comfortable bed and pillows. Beautiful, modern large bathroom with double shower. Alka provided lots of options for breakfast, including bread, cereal, milk, yogurt, tea and coffee and fruit. Dishes and cutlery for two was included. Beautiful view to private yard. Large windows with plenty of sunshine. Private access path with lights activated in the evening. Excellent property that we would highly recommend! And a wonderful host family!
