Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesStaff are great and trained to give you the best shark experience. The hostel is basic but serves the purpose. The blanket was a thin sheet not enough to sleep in the ac room. I had to put all my winter clothes on to fall sleep.

United KingdomThe property itself is nice and the beds are comfortable however the bathrooms are poor, if they took better care of them + added the basic necessities such as a bidet/toilet roll and soap they would have a super nice hostel
Perfect for the whale shark watching, you will be the first boat out which is great, they wake you up at 3:30 to get your number for the line. The staff were so friendly and helpful with explaining and arranging everything and if you only come to oslob for the sharks for 1 night then I’d definitely recommend here

Absolutely perfect if you are planning to do whale sharks. Staff are absolutely amazing, waking you up and waiting in line for you. We were first out on the boats (worth the 3:45am wake up)

NetherlandsSince many people leave for dives you might be woken up often by noise. You also hear noise from the beach. Because of this I would recommend to also take an early dive (6am is a good sweet spot imo) There wasn't any toilet paper not a bum gun, so make creative use of the shower or bring your own paper
The location is perfect for whale shark dives. You can go at any time, including the early 4am dives! There is a place with free water which is nice and the staff is super friendly and helpful! The room and beds were nice

PolandFor this price and experience I cannot complain about anything.
THIS PLACE IS GREAT BUT PROVIDES YOU WITH BASIC FACILITIES! So now this is clear, let’s begin with more detailed explanation. My wife and I were on a tight schedule as we had only 2 nights for Cebu Island. We arrived to Sharky Hostel shortly after 15.30 and were greeted by the family that runs this place. From the beginning we did not have to worry about anything that was related to our next part of the trips. We obviously wanted to see the whale sharks the next day. The family for got us the tickets and they got us the first place in queue before the hoard mass of other turists got to Oslob. They woke us up earlier too so you will not miss to be placed on the first few sits on the waiting to be briefed list. After whale shark watching, since we got to finish it as first guests, we were able to us get some breakfast before we got hopped on the tricycle that was organized by the host. They even made sure to check on the ferry schedule that is not going different hour that specific date which occasionally happens. So about the place - is right next to the whole Shark Watching Area (~50 steps from your bed to the gate). We stayed in separate room and it is a simple but comfy bamboo hut with few power socket, a fan and mosquito net. To me, it was more than enough to get some sleep. Toilet and shower area are very simple - no hot water and no running water in the toilets. I got used to this earlier so I did not have that much of a problem but simple toilet facilities for other people can be difficult. If the shared area you will find some drinking water, coffee and pool table.

IrelandThe dorm was comfortable and adequate. The bathroom facilities were basic but it was so worth staying at Sharky for the accessibility to whale watching.
Amazing helpful host who goes out of her way to make you have the best and priority access to the whale shark watching. Also helped to get us transfers from Oslob.

Poland- Not very clean - No warm water - The beds weren't very comfortable
The hostel is practically on the whale shark beach, and the staff go out of their way to make sure you're the first one to see them. They even get up in the middle of the night to reserve you a spot on the first boat that leaves. And they don't charge you anything for it.

RomaniaThere is nothing to complain about the place.
The main advantage of the place is that it is very close to the whale sharks spot. So staff organize it for you. Waking you up in the early morning, managing your place in the queue etc. Fantastic dedication! The room itself just meets the description. It has bed, fan, and anti-mosquito net! Bathroom-toilet is shared. You need your own towel. There is a spot to get drinking water and instant coffee.

United KingdomThe owner and the children are so lovely and get up at 1:30am to secure the places to see the whale sharks - make sure you give them tips for this!! If they didn’t, you would be in a very long line for hours to see the whale sharks.. The location of this is right next to where you see the whale sharks. I stayed in a little private hut - I was worried about mosquitoes but the strong fan and repellent kept them away and I needn’t of worried.

The room was big, it had air conditioning, the hosts are very nice and helpful. If you want to do the whale shark watching this is the best place to do so!! It is just 600 pesos and you will be on the first boat in the morning! In the afternoon the area is very quiet which I loved!

United KingdomWe were in a double bed hut for the night which smelt of urine unfortunately. Wasn’t the cleanest place but the staff and the whole whale shark experience made up for it.
Great location for whale shark watching. Got us on the second boat out. It is a 3am wake up but the staff wake you, line up with you, take payment, get you sorted on the boat and even sorted us out a lift to the ferry port afterwards. Location for restaurants is average but if you’re staying one night, there are a few good options to eat (la terrasse and cocina en acantilado). Fan in the room, free water and coffee.

LatviaRosters and dogs during the night goes sicko mode. So be prepared for noice. Bring earplugs. Toilet could be better but not that bad. Bungalows need some repairing. Also the location could be tricky to find, you need to go through narrow pathway between houses in the gates.
We stayed in the bungalow and it was decent for 1 night stay. Bed was comfortable. There is a kitchen, a pool and commun area where to relax. Wifi was very good for Philippines. Few restaurants very close( just across the main street) and convenience store just outside the hotel.( not sure what other people were complaining about in reviews before us). But best part is that nice lady will show you everything regarding Whale shark watching. She woke us up at 3:30 to make sure we are on the first batch in registration and helped us with everything untill we were in the first boat of the day! She will charge you 600 peso but it is worth it to pay extra 100 because the registration might be confusing especially with huge crowds of people trying que up and get done with this faster. Also she will help you to make a reservation for the boat if you go to Bohol from Oslob. Felt like a great service!
