Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

KenyaThe coffee machines should have written guidance. It took ages to figure out how to make a cup of hot water or coffee.
Everything - the location was walking distance to town, a nearby supermarket and the beach. The rooms very spacioua and very comfortable.

SwitzerlandSome receptionists are less professional than others. I would like to see more support and friendliness from some of them.
A new and relatively large hotel complex, which is unusual for this island, with fresh and elegant large rooms. It is run by dedicated and enthusiastic locals. The large supermarket is just a few minutes' walk away.

United StatesIt would be nice if there were more shops near the hotel.
Stunning room, stunning pools, amazing complementary breakfast. A close walk to the grocery store which was great. The paid airport shuttle was a nice service as well.

IsraelThe breakfast could be improved with fresh vegetables and a better coffee machine. If there is a kitchenette in the room then it would be nice if there were kitchen utensils, and a set for washing dishes.
A lovely new hotel, the staff is kind, the rooms are big and there is a kitchenette. the hotel's restaurant is very good. we had a great time.

GuernseyGiven the standard of the bedrooms the breakfast room was dissapointing. The coffee was dispensed from an automatic machine. The fruit juice from concentrate, again a machine, as were the jams and pancakes. Given the high quality of the hotel this was surprising. Eggs were avaliable and on request they kindly cooked fresh ones. The sauna and steam room were out of action. This hotel is located slightly out of town next to an industrial estate. However it is possible to walk into town about 15 mins.
Great bedrooms, comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms, fridge and coffee machine. Fantastic local restaurant 5 mins walk away. However very popular so must book. Most of the staff at the hotel were very helpful.

SwitzerlandThe breakfast was okay, but a bit more variety would be nice. The shower was temperamental. Often shifting randomly between ice cold and boiling hot.
Lovely new hotel with spacious room. Rooms were well serviced and cleaned every day. The swimming pool area is nice, and mostly quiet and peaceful. Car hire was reasonably priced considering the general pricing of hiring vehicles on the island. The restaurant in the hotel serves tasty food.

SwitzerlandIt would have been nice to have the pool facilities open later.
This was a really nice hotel. Our room was large and comfortable. We used the indoor pool and hot tub which were nice though closes at 8pm. The restaurant was a bit overpriced and did not have many non-seafood options but the food was good and the atmosphere was elegant.

United KingdomThe restaurant was heavily over-priced; tried to be too gourmet but somewhat missed the mark on quality, while being far more expensive than several other restaurants we visited on the island. Breakfast was also really basic / disappointing.
Good location (15 mins walk into the center of Madalena) with nice restaurants and coastal views / walks nearby. Interior design was lovely, and rooms were big. Hotel also very clean. Outdoor pool was lovely too.

United KingdomToilet paper not always stocked up on daily clean. Pool is a lot smaller than photos suggested. One of the pool umbrellas broken all week & just left folded down so shade was at a bit of a premium! Not central to town - a 10-15 minute walk along one straight road (or out and round coastal path) to get into town. Restaurant is very pricey - looked beautiful but luxury and expensive rather than grab a quick bite to eat!
Lovely place with huge rooms, very clean, good breakfast available and indoor and outdoor pool.

CanadaThe hotel restaurant is terrible. Overpriced for what you get. The service staff do not speak English well, so they did not understand basic asks like getting a check, or seeing the drink menu. The food was not at all worth the price. There are 2 excellent restaurants a 2m walk from the hotel, if they want to be competitive on food quality and service, they need to step up their game. The hotel is excellent, the restaurant inside sucks, plain and simple
The hotel is excellent. Loved the view, the walkability into Madalena, and the service staff were incredible and went above and beyond.

Netherlands-Some of the staff does not speak English very well (especially in breakfast room and sometimes at the reception) and did not understand what we were trying to ask, so that we ended up using google translate. In a n hotel I do expect a bit more, even though my English neither is perfect. -Housekeeping forgot to replace new towels once they were picked up and we even ran out of toilet paper. Sometimes I missed a bit of an eye for detail from them. -Hence there is so little (wall) decoration in the common areas (hallways, spa, breakfast room) the atmosphere is not very cozy and a bit plain and you can even hear an echo in the hallways. -In our room there was a door so that two rooms can be connected, unfortunately that door caused that we could hear every single word of the neighbors and that we even could see their light shine underneath the doors. The rooms, including the hallways, were so noisy that I put earplugs in to fall asleep.
The property is new and everything is very clean, nice interior as well. A big parking lot to park your car in front of the hotel. Great view of mount Pico during breakfast. Great sea view from our room. Spa: The facial treatment by Nicole was just superb. She is very knowledgeable, sweet, kind and knows what she is doing. Can recommend her strongly. The pool area is new and we were able to relax there :)
