Wonderful hosts who allowed us an early check in as I was unwell. I could not have been better looked after. They are genuinely lovely people. I have stayed in Camino accommodation across Spain, Portugal and France and this was the best.

Amazing staff! Elizabeth was welcoming and took extra time to go over details of our stay. It was the first day of our Camino, and we felt so fortunate to receive such amazing hospitality. A wonderful breakfast was the start to our day.

We liked everything

We have the best stay here. Close to the Camino, very comfortable and host was great. She recommended a place for dinner - traditional Portuguese food - delicious and a good price. Room was well equipped included spacious bathroom as well as extended bedroom including a living area. A lot of thought has gone into making guests comfortable - extras such as tea/coffee, availability of drinks and snacks. Also washing machines and drier available for small fee. A great place for those doing the Camino to relax.

The place was great. Elizabeth is a gracious host. Breakfast was a good selection and she gave us sandwich bags to take left over food for the walk. Very knowledgeable about the Camino.

Outstanding place to stay on the Camino! Don’t pass it by! Comfortable beds, close to restaurants, by beach, lots of amenities! This was our 2nd Camino and our 2nd stay here. This owner is one of the kindest and most helpful individuals! Incredible breakfast!

What a gem this Elizabete has here! Her and her husband are SO wonderful and they run a fabulous guest house. That's extremely clean, comfortable, a great sleep, & with the hugest delicious breakfast. You definitely won't start your day on the Camino starving, or receiving any lack of travel information and advice. 🙏 My room was huge, and had everything I needed, especially for one 💕 Laundry, available downstairs and a pool, but I didn't try either as I didn't quite need laundry done yet, and the weather wasn't pool weather yet. Next time! It had a separate living room with couch and desk, two ocean view balconies, great shower, and hairdryer, kettle for tea, but you can also go downstairs and help yourself to drinks on an honour system. Down the street there are two restaurant options… I went for the one on the ocean, with the freshest fish dinner. YUM.

The host was just amazing, super friendly and helpful. She speaks English very well and is supportive in every way. The house and the room are decorated with lots of love. Useful information is provided. Breakfast fast rich and delicious, all freshly prepared with love.

Elisabeth was an exceptional host! The house was spotless and filled with light and vibrant decor. The welcome beer was very appreciated as I was walking the Camino on this trip. The breakfast was incredible and I was sad to say goodbye.

Beautiful, homely accommodation, just off the camino coastal path. Fernando was so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Amazing breakfast in a lovely breakfast room. I can not recommend enough.

Elizabeth and Fernando could not have been more gracious. The home is beautiful, the location is ideal, and everything was perfect. I can't say enough good things about Fernando. Since the minute I walked through the door, I was immediately welcomed with a huge warm smile. After having a rough first day on El Camino, he made it all better. The place is incredible, spotless clean, and well maintained. My room was very comfortable and cozy. The location is very close to the beach, but can only be easily reached by car or taxi.

We had a wonderful 5-day stay in Smiling Places. The hosts, Elisabete and Fernando, are charming (completely mad, but in a nice way). They have worked so hard to make their house confortable for their guests. If anything is not to your liking, tell them and they will do their best to put it right. Breakfast was delicious and copious. There are several good restaurants nearby.

Smiling Places was the first stop on my Camino de Santiago, and I could not be happier with my stay there. Elizabeth is simply the most welcoming, warm and kind host I could ever have expected. She, and Smiling Places were a true gift. I met two fellow guests at Smiling Places that I hope will remain friends. If you can book a room there, don’t hesitate!! It was the most wonderful way to start my Camino.

Elizabeth was a phenomenal host, the level of hospitality she delivered was exceptional! My son and I talked about her guesthouse and missing her, while we embarked on the Camino. Smiling Places is a must stay, it is very clean and the breakfast was amazing!
