  • Matrix Hostel Review score: 8

“Good location with bus stop near the hostel, so that the city is reachable within 20 minutes. Nice attentive staff.”

  • “Convenient location, clean and exactly what we needed for our stay in edinburgh.”

  • Motel One Edinburgh-Princes Review score: 8

“Comfortable room and very Clean! Perfect location. Only annoyance — there was a lot of maintenance noise on the day I stayed. Lots of drilling and banging going on as they were refurbishing the opposite room me. Good thing I was up early and out and about. If I had wanted to snooze in I would have been very upset. Other than that great value for money”

“Amazing views from the Royal Terrace and a short walk to excellent restaurants. Beautiful gardens, really comfortable beds and gorgeous toiletries!”

  • “We were excited to celebrate our wedding anniversary short mid week break here, however we had not realised that it was half term in Scotland as as such there was a huge number of children running riot about the hotel. To the point we had to make a complaint about a room above us allowing what sounded like a children's sports day happen above us at 6.45am! The hotel is nice, the pillows a bit weak and there was no smart tv facility. We had food in the pentland restaurant, again fairly good options but the food was average at best, over cooked or undercooked veg and what tasted like packet mash. Afternoon tea was superb and very tasty, we were looked after really well by the staff during this too. Breakfast is a hectic experience, I'd recommend super early or not at all, we even gave it a miss on our last morning as the queue was into the reception area at 9.15am. We didn't get to use the leisure facilities as they were constantly busy with lots of children too. Accepting this is no fault of the hotel, particularly just bad timing. The stay was ok but not exactly what we'd expected or hoped for.”

  • Motel One Edinburgh-Royal Review score: 9

“As others have mentioned, the location was absolutely perfect, right in the middle of the old and new towns. The bus to and from the Airport was just outside of the hotel which made for easy travel. Likewise to the tram system which was next beside the bus stop. Despite this and the somewhat busy roads outside, we heard zero noise from our room, apart from some doors banging occasionally.. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and always available to help with anything we needed. The 12pm checkout was a real bonus, letting us avoid any early morning stress. Our return flight wasn’t until the evening, and the hotel kindly stored our luggage while we explored a bit more. Later, we were able to relax and recharge (ourselves and our phones!) before heading to the airport.”
