Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

RomaniaThe shared bathroom could use some ventilation. Especially after someone takes a shower. I can't think of anything else.
I remembered why I visited Retro Hostel before: it's a good place to meet people and it's in a great area of the city. I had interesting conversations with the staff and I met fellow travelers who I enjoyed spending time with. Even though my room was facing the alley, there wasn't much noise and I could sleep well.

MoldovaNot sure if the price was fair. Although it was a last minute booking, 22 euro for a night seems to be overpriced. I usually stay in Bucharest for half of that price. But most likely it was because of Untold Festival, which was about to begin in a couple of days. I guess it must be the busiest time of the year for all the properties in Cluj-Napoca.
The location is quite good. Very close to the city center. Everything you may need is around the corner. The manager has been really helpful and pleasant to talk to. There was some free tea and coffee at the kitchenette. Moreover, I was given some biscuits and a tiny bottle of brandy as a welcome gift. Romanian hospitality at its best! The room and the toilet didn't impress me though.

ItalyThe bathroom were too small and the shower room a bit too dark. There wasn’t a light above each bed, so at night the room was a bit dark.
The staff/owner was very friendly, available and kind. The room was large, and comfortable enough.

TaiwanThe room is very hot and very small. I could hardly open my suitcase. The bathroom situation wasn’t ideal, the floor is always wet and the sink is gross. The only common space is in the basement, which can be pretty depressing at night. Definitely not worth the price. However, Cluj is a pretty expensive city itself, so I didn’t have a lot of options. If you’re only staying for a day or two and you just need a place to sleep, this could still be your best option. Just don’t expect too much.
The location is great. Close to everything.

Germany-
Overall, I had a fantastic time at this hostel. The receptionists, convenient location, and nearby restaurants added to the positive experience. The room and facilities were nice, and the cellar common area was a highlight. I would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a pleasant and enjoyable stay.

IsraelThey sent me the email with the code for the door when I was in-flight, and when I got there I had a problem with my phone, so I could not access the code to open the door, could not get in and could not get any information about my room. There is someone at the front desk only in the mornings. If there is no one to help people that information has to arrive earlier.
The location was great! The staff was helpful and friendly- and it could not have been better.

FinlandThe common space was not easily accessible or cozy. The cleanliness of rooms and spaces was good but there was not enough toilet paper and not big enough trash cans.
The rooms were quiet even tho the location was very cental in the city. The rooms were cozy even though the attic had a very low seiling (not for people over 170cm). Hosts were very nice, easy to reach and helpful! The kitchen was good and had most things needed for cooking. Having a sauna for guests who stay a little longer was a very nice addition.

RomaniaWe received only 1 towel for 2 people and no shampoo. The mattress is not very comfortable and the sheets have a rather synthetic eel. The room is rather small and almost completely occupied by the bed and it's way too pricey for it's facilities, except the location. But Cluj has become the most trendy and expensive city in Romania, so probably that's why you get Barcelona-like prices.
Central location, easy self check in, the skylight in the room, being able to leave the bags after checkout, although unsupervised. Nice gesture of giving small local welcome gift.
