Look, the bungalows we stayed in is in need of upgrades (but I have heard it is planned for in April 2025 so awesome). What I really disliked was the presence of staff everywhere. We constantly had staff roaming next to or in front of the cottage so I felt a bit uncomfortable tanning in my bathing suit or sitting on the terrace. But I tried just ignoring this as I understood the reason for being there (upkeeping the grass, cleaning etc.)

Listen, the location is perfect!!! Close to nice massage places as well as restaurants. Easy to hire scooter at good price. The rooms have nice views and the beach gets cleaned. Pool is nice and the loungers are awesome. The grass in front is nice if you think of how vicious the sand fleas can get. The receptionist was amazing!!! She was well spoken in English (the first Thai person we encountered that actually understood English). Well done to her!

Our rooms a/c had a mind of its own. It turned on by itself all the time in the middle of the night. We had to turn off the electricity by pulling out the key fob at the door. Small problem, still good rooms. Beach towels were smelly.. simple small things.

Great location, clean rooms, tourist street and restaurants/bars very close. Good scooter rental at hotel and next to hotel. Cheap taxi to and from hotel. Staff was nice. Ok breakfast.

The bed!! Such a shame as was so hard! Lucky we only had two nights as this really is a downside. The towels are old and washed out too and look grubby.

Coming from Koh Chang we took the Kai Bae Hut speed boat which passes along the coast of the last few beaches then drops you right off at Makathanee’s pier! This was an excellent way to arrive at the resort! The hotel was in a great location close to other cafes,restaurants and bars which was a real bonus in the evening as some places can get a little quiet at night.

If you want to explore the island,this is the best resort on Koh mak. Close to the street with alot of great restaurants and with a scooter you can also get fast to other great spots on the island.

Basic breakfast Islands issue of sandfly that give nasty bites. Many visits to chemist across road !!

Huge family room, upstairs 3rd floor over looking the pier. Stunning, couldn't ever get tired of that view ever!!! Both bedrooms had their own ensuite's. Near nice little restaurants, shops, great vegan restauran nearby. Stunning view from Up in the Clouds bar, part of hotel, but too expensive drink prices! Could be something special. The swimming pool is nice for kids, particularly. Gardens is quite nice. Pier is very handy for speedboat transfers, which was worth its wait!! On nice beach, with cocktail happy hour and great sunset and music playing.

This resort is right on the water with chairs in a grassy area. You can enjoy the sunset from here each night. Their upstairs restaurant called Hight in the Clouds has excellent food with a beautiful night view. My travel partner got bitten by a dog on a morning walk. The resort helped with transport to the clinic and they waited for us there till medical attention was done. Good breakfast. Staff is helpful and kind. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Would recommend and would stay again.

This is definitely not a luxury resort, the places are a bit old and worn, but clean. Breakfast is quite limited. Swimming is difficult, because the sea bottom is really rocky, I recommend swimming shoes. However, the price was affordable, and I couldn't have expected better facilities for that price. So I could highly recommend it as a hotel in that price range.

We stayed in the beach cottages. The room was spacious with large windows overlooking the sea and it was nice to sit on the terrace and watch the seascape. Friendly staff. There were a few sun loungers here and there on the lawns of the beach, so you didn't have to lie down next to anyone else. Services very close by, including a couple of small shops, Thai and a couple of Western restaurants, and a couple of beach restaurants along the beach.

The overall impression is that the hotel has seen its better days. Outside one of our windows was an abandoned hot tub which made the impression of the property very run-down. Also fire security seems to be very lacking, as most places in Thailand. Get some smoke alarms!

We really enjoyed our stay at Makathanee! We stayed in one of the villas straight on the beach and got to experience a lot of magical sunsets. The rooftop bar was also a very nice extra. Breakfast was good and the staff is really lovely. Many restaurants near by so very convenient location.

A bit dated, but too many other positives overshadow that!

My travel partner was bitten by a dog on a morning walk. The staff was so helpful in having a taxi take us to the clinic and wait for us while he was treated. They also arranged for the taxi on the next two successive days we were there. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Nice view out to the sea. I like they have grassy area you can hang out on chaise lounge chairs during the day. We also ate at their In the Cloud restaurant. Great view out to sea and wonderful food! Breakfast offered the usual choices with relaxed place to eat. Nice pool also. Went in that each day. Plenty of places to eat around there and a pharmacy right across the street.

They have a big problem with bed bugs, they didn't change the bed linens (our stay was 5 nights), at the 3 night (nightmare feeling crawling on us all night). Unfortunately we noticed it too late, so the bed bugs are on our clothes as well. We met another french couple that stayed the same number of nights we did, and the same problem. They were the ones that explained were bed bugs and said we should ask to change the bed linens.

The location is amazing, just next to the beach and near a lot of restaurants. The room is very spacious and has an enormous bathroom, a good balcony facing the beach. The restaurant is facing the beach, with a lot space and shade, the breakfast was enough and fresh. All the staff are friendly and always with a big smile. The reception is always friendly and explains all the questions on how to get around on the island.

Resort has a sea wall protecting the beach area and beach chairs are placed on a grass area on top of the sea wall. Just doesn't quite feel like being on the beach (unlike most other hotels around). Rooms are clean but pretty dated. Hotel overall is a little dated too. Water pressure is really low which makes showering difficult. Bars seem to be quite close as pretty noisy at nightm

Resort is on a nice beach. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Pool is decent, lots of beach Chairs. Breakfast is ok, very similar to breakfast in most hotels. Lots of nice restaurants around.

This is an entire Island problem not a specific resort problem. These are way worse than any mosquito bite you have ever experienced so make sure you use deet when anywhere near the beach

Beds are hard. They could easily fix this by spending the money to upgrade the mattresses in all the "Premium" rooms. The WiFi Access points need to be totally upgraded so that their is ample internet connectivity throughout the premises They need to upgrade all of the "Premium" rooms with new Smart Tv's They need to supply comfortable pads on all the day time lounge chairs for the comfort of their guests **** NOTE - this Island has an infestation of Midges, also known as sand flies / No-See-ums that bite you without you realizing it 3-4 hours later. The Makathanee Resort Hotel on the beautiful Island of Koh Mak still has the best location there is. Sure, you can find other properties that could be argued better but they cannot beat the location and price value of the Makathanee. Beds too hard, breakfast not great a bit cold. Going up to our deluxe sea view room we had to walk past two rusty old shopping trolleys. Not enough sun beds for all the guests, needs a little bit of love on the decor. Coffee is awful!
