This hostel was a gem! The family running it is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the stay feel personal and warm. The rooms are comfortable, and the balcony views are a nice bonus. There’s also a great common space to meet other travelers. Located right in the center of Panjakent, it’s close to the bazaar, parks, and local restaurants serving tasty national dishes. All that, and the price is super reasonable — highly recommended.

The hostel is a bit hard to find the first time due to a lack of signage, but the locals are very friendly and pointed me in the right direction.

I stayed here on two separate occasions, and each time was a happy and pleasant experience. They have fresh drinking water flowing from the mountains, comfortable beds and Mansour's family always give a warm welcome. It is very easy to make friends at this hostel due to the design of the common area and rooms. It is a brilliant hub to meet other travellers and hikers, get information and share transport to the next location. Mansour himself is a wealth of information and can help with your next steps. Also the shower pressure was strong and the water is hot. They have one western toilet and one local, but there was rarely a wait due to the maximum occupancy of the hostel.

    Nothing to dislike, perfect

Amazing hostel with the nicest family. Mansoor is so nice and helpful with information, tours, arranging shared taxi, recommendations for budget options, etc. His kids, wife and mom are lovely, so warm and nice. The dorms are so so cozy, I had the best sleep, the beds are really good. I love the terrace sitting area outside the dorm with the open walls and curtains, a very comfortable place to relax, work, read. Good breakfast too. Excellent shower, hot water with good pressure. Perfect location, close to the bazaar and bus station. The entire hostel and home was kept very clean. Inner courtyard with a garden. I especially loved the view from the dorm (inner room) with a blossom tree right outside the window

One single bathroom is maybe not enough when the guesthouse is full (it was ok for us, but not if you're on a schedule)

Great homestay in Panjakent. Our host and his family are very welcoming. He speaks a really good english and can give you a lot of recommendations. He also organises tours and treks in the Fann Mountains. We had the bottom room the first night, large and comfy bed. When we came back we had the upstair room, you have to cross the shared room to get to it. It has a small balcony and two less comfortable beds.

My friend and I give great thanks to Mansur Aqa and his lovely family. Their hospitality alone makes Sim-Sim Hostel well worth the price. They are happy to receive you at any time and will assist you with requests. The children are helpful and love to practice their English. Though we did not need the service, the hostel will drive you to Haft-Kul and they can pick you up from the border if needed. Muslim travellers, a historical mosque is just around the corner! For all travellers, 15 minutes walk south (go straight) and you are at the Ancient City of Panjakent, where you can walk amidst the ruins on top of the hill. You are directly beside the bazaar. I hope to stay again.

Great all over. Wife & Grandma don't speak English. Husband does & is extremely helpful. All the family are lovely. I was in a 4 bed room but they moved me to a room of my own same price which was nice. Breakfast good. They have drinking water, you can use the kitchen. Some nice travellers staying here also. Overall I would recommend.

I was coming from 7 days in a tent on the Fann mountains and I was looking a confortable place for one night. Well, I found much more....Sim sim Hostel and its family are the mirror of Tajik hospitality and friendship. For the details, comfortable bed, hot shower, large and clean spaces. The common areas are very well-kept and relaxing. The people in this hostel are to ease and the atmosphere that you breathe helps friendship and sharing...the mirror of tajik.... thank's.

I got this guest house reccomended to me by two british chaps in Uzbekistan before hearing of Panjakent, and I was not disapointed. Rather I had a amazing time! Originally came for one night but ended up staying for four, and were tempted to stay for even longer! Mansour and his family were lovely hosts and a prime example of Tajik hospitality.

Mansour and his family is the most welcoming host Ive meet in my travels. I had a great time. From a logistical point of view the location is perfect just a couple of hundred meters from the bazar where you can buy fresh and tasty fruits, vegetables, etc. Transport is very accessible a few meters from the main street where you can travel anywhere. Panjakent as a city is not very big and you can most certainly go by foot anywhere if you like to walk, people are friendly and try to help you even though I do not speak a word of russian nor Tajik, but with some google translator and "sign" language I could made it.

The mattress is a bit soft for my back.

Mansu and his family went out their way to accommodate the guests. It is the sweetest stay I have ever had in a homestay/hostel( the big house dated back 100 years ago are separated in two areas with spacious sitting room for the guests overlooking the family garden.

However, in my opinion, this hostel has two drawbacks: first, the lack of private, lockable storage for guests, and second, the absence of power outlets next to each bed. I suggest adding privacy partitions and individual reading lights for each bed to enhance the comfort of guests.

This accommodation is actually a large, old house built around a spacious central courtyard, with rooms surrounding it where the host family lives. Part of the courtyard has been converted into an additional floor, which includes a room with four single beds. At the end of this room, there is a door leading to a smaller room. Outside the room, there is also a sitting area for relaxation. The bathroom and toilet are located on the lower floor, and a shared kitchen is available. Although the family uses the kitchen, you can request to use it to heat up your food or boil water for tea. The atmosphere of this hostel is warm and friendly, and Mansour, the owner, along with his three children, are ready to assist and guide guests. Mansour, who is one of the renowned tour guides in the Panjkent region, can be a great guide for visiting the Haftkul Lakes or planning hiking trips in the area. Additionally, a delicious and high-quality breakfast is served for guests. The hostel is located in a very convenient spot, close to the city's central market.
