Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyI payed around almost 1000NTD. If I was traveling as with another person we would have payed 1200NTD for the room (afaik). I hesitated booking the room, since it is kind of expensive for a backpacker like me who also didn't eat breakfast there (I had to leave too early). I think the property should think about providing an option without breakfast or renting the room as a dormitory room where each bed can be booked individually under the week for 600NTD or sth so that the property can more money while more people can stay around Alishan for lower price.

United StatesI highly suggest people to thoroughly read the reviews. I read the reviews and was mentally prepared that the facilities would not be the most up-to-date and clean, but felt that it was sufficient for a one night stay. Specifically, the bathrooms are not clean but they provide you with everything you need. This is definitely more of a homestay experience and not a hotel experience. Set your expectations accordingly before booking!
Loved the location! It's in a more private and quiet area of Fenqihu but still very close to the busy parts of the town. I also loved the bedroom which was very comfortable and cozy. I also liked that there's a hot water boiler in the common room so you can help yourself to hot water (just make sure the machine is finished boiling the water - there will be a green light).

TaiwanThe whole town has some sewage smell issues so the bathroom smell is not super pleasent. It's recommended to keep the bathroom door closed and open the window in the bathroom- if possible also keep the dehumidifier in bathroom. Also, on site water dispenser only has very hot water and hot water so bring bottles to cool your water. Bring ear plugs for there's a dog at night that tends to bark very loud and wake you up if you're a light sleeper. I got ear plugs from the 7/11 and I slept well each day aside from the first.
I loved the Old Street. It was such a great place to live by and super convenient to have our room there since many places on the Old Street don't have bathrooms. The room itself including the bed was good and the balcony was beautiful! The owner is extremely kind and if you want to cook there's a kitchen area to cook. The owner also sold some snacks and veggies which we appreciated. Weather in the summer was perfect and mountain view is beautiful. We enjoyed the TV in the room as well. Location is definetely the best asset of this stay. Great place if you want to spend a lot of time doing Touristy things in Fenqihu, Alishan (45-50 minute drive without traffic), Meishan/ Taiping Area (20-40 minute drive depending where you go).

GermanyThe room and bathroom were not cleaned properly. Bathroom equipment was very low-level and water temperature was quite low. The mattress was super thin and not well cushioned.
Perfect location if you want to stay in Fenqihu, directly next to the lower old street. Staff was very kind, although only the owner speaks English. I felt like it is one of the more affordable options in the Alishan area, as it is very popular around there and not too many accommodations. However it is not cheap in my opinion.

NetherlandsI am not the person that complains when I find 1 hair on a bed, but it looked like these bedsheets were not washed at all. Also the bathrooms were dirty and the beds were painful because the bottom was sagged.
Nice and welcoming people. Checking in early was no problem. They provided new water when necessary.

TaiwanThe kitchen was very dirty. Many coacroachs were there. The bathroom of the dorm was terrible.
Actually, don't compare this place with a city. The hostel is situated in the far remote area village. The location is exactly the opposite of the Police station and around 800 meters downhill. There is only one 7-11 situated at the uphill. I recommend not booking a dormitory. The single room is okay for a short stay only.

TaiwanThe rooms were horribly poor in all the facilities. No air conditioning was there even though the website description said that the rooms have air conditioning. There was no normal drinking water supply, there was no water filler machine as well that could provide the normal cold drinking water, only hot water was available. For our room type, it was more than 1000 NTD per night but the facilities were very poor. There was a shared bathroom and a toilet that were tremendously unclean and unhygienic, not maintained at all making them totally unpresentable to the guests. But the thing is there were no photos of that area available on the website that worked as a trick for them. Our main door was not locking as well, giving us no privacy.
The only positive things about the property were the location and the small terrace.

Singapore- Toilet was very small, layout of the toilet was bad. Couldn’t tell the toilet was small from the photos. Requested to change to another room but it wasn’t any much better - Stench of the toilet drainage was extremely bad, terrible air ventilation. If you leave the bathroom door open, the stench can fill the room - tap was mouldy. Didn’t dare to use the water from the tap - even though it was stated 350m away from the train station, it wasn’t friendly as the journey to the accommodation was filled with lots of steep slopes. We struggled to push the luggages up and down the slopes. - bedsheet was a bit dirty, got a bit of stains - corridor was full of spider webs and spiders - mosquitoes were found in the room - can hear the opening and closing of doors and other noises from other units - toilet has no lock, sliding door concept - need to draw the curtains for the main door (sliding). If the light in the room is on without drawing the curtains, anyone who walks past can see you inside - stairs up to the rooms were steep and narrow, no lift
Staff was polite and professional. Tv has many channels

TaiwanThe bathroom sadly smells of sewage so I recommend to close the window and door.
Nice place, nice boss and staff, overall very happy! While not too far from Fencihu old street but there are lots of slopes so if you have heavy luggage like me then it’s a little mission.

United StatesI had planned to stay two days and hike around Fenqihu .. what I didn’t realize was this is a homestead . There was a small community of 4-5 really nice older people living there that cooked and made me feel so at home . I got so much more than I planned for in the best way . One of the women showed me the coolest hiking trails in the mountains near Fenqihu that I never would have found through a google search . Absolutely amazing . I came from America to go deep into the center of Taiwan . I thought it would be an experience where I was on my own , but there was so much shared with me at this hostel . A real cultural exchange , and friendships I’ll remember forever .

PolandNo shower stall so after taking the shower the floor of the whole bathroom is wet. Make sure to ask for a heater. I thought it's in the room and when i realised it wasn't, it was pretty late and the manager could no longer be reached. The cold gets pretty cold without the heater.
The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and had quality duvet and linen in it. Good shower gel and shampoo provided. The room has a mountain view.

United StatesIt didn't bother me, but the bedrooms are right next to the hosts home/living room. So if you like to sleep really early then it's not a good choice for you.
The bed were so comfy! And it's an easy 5 minute walk to the old street, but a quiet spot. The hosts were so nice! They gave me home-grown fruit when I left.
