Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesReally, not much we don't like.
Good porridge breakfast made by the owner's dad. The hotel is right next to the beach, and you can see sunrise in the morning from your room. A day tour of Hualien is available through the manager. The driver provides excellent local history, but it is only in Mandarin.

SloveniaWe should have chosen the ocean view room :)
It is a really small hotel with only 6 rooms in total, which makes it a very private place. They offer decent breakfast in a nice room facing the beach. You can exit the hotel through the back door directly to the coastline.

United StatesThe place was a bit hard to get to from the Hualien Station, generally infrequent buses in the city and a fair bit of a walk after the bus (~10min). The homestay is well maintained and spotless, although one can tell the furniture is dated. Something to note: there's also no elevator with the rooms on floors 2,3,4.
The sea view is stunning. It's also conveniently right next to a bicycle rental shop, highly recommend you take a morning to rent a bike for 3hr (only 150TWD) and go along the bicycle-only coastal route! It's also located beside the night market in Hualien (~5min walk). The room also comes with a nice balcony to relax on :)

SingaporeBeware that this accommodation does not have a lift. The highest floor is 4th floor. No staff will carry up the luggage for you. There's no shuttle service as claimed in the description. It's actually paid taxi (one of the staff drives taxi). No housekeeping offered for 3 days stay - no disposing of rubbish, no change of towels. Nothing. Given that this is homestay, the hospitality of the hosts is definitely lacking. TLDR, in short the service doesn't live up to a taiwan homestay, cannot even compare to an average hotel. Arrived with the female staff not aware that we're arriving. The staff called and checked with someone and chided the pax in front of us while we were waiting for her to confirm. This made us felt unwelcome. No smiles, purely business. Thinking that this is a homestay, we bought a local produce for the host. Host/staff received with total uninterested look on his face. He might not like the item, but at least look happier when receiving the item. As we need to set off early in the morning, we gave a heads-up to the host as we don't want them to overprep the breakfast. Host/staff was unappreciative and has a look of "why r u telling me this for". Last day of our stay, had a quick breakfast and while we were getting out of the place, the staff that drives taxi came out to ask if we're checking out and if we need a ride. We told him that we've booked a ride already. He became totally uninterested and left without saying anything. Total bumper, was expecting friendly host and it turns out to be a bunch of unfriendly staff/host. Even a typical average TW hotel can offer much friendlier service.
View of the sea right at the room is great! Can even see the sunrise, though slightly obstructed by the coconut/palm tree in front. You can walk through the backyard of homestay and reach the coastal walk area, though u cannot walk to the water area.

United StatesThere was no housekeeping. I suppose you could bring your towels downstairs and ask for replacements. On my last morning I found a cockroach sitting inside my teacup in the room. I have a recommendation for others. There are at least 5 or 6 other lodgings adjacent to this one. So, do some price comparison. This lodging is $80 U.S. nightly through Booking and I feel it's a bit on the high side.
Adjacent to night market. Room is very large. Bed was comfortable. Mountain bike available to use on area bike paths. Transport to rail station is included.
