Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ThailandThe place is quiet and cozy, run by a lovely family. You can feel they really care about their guests. It has a beautiful view of a tea plantation right in front, it's next to a great coffee shop, and there are a few walks you can do nearby. It's a bit of a ride to get to Alishan national park but the host always kindly offers to drive you to the nearest bus stop to get around. She was always asking us what we wanted to do and was very helpful. She doesn't speak English but uses a translator app on her phone so communication was always smooth.

SingaporeExcellent and warm host. Delicious and homely dinner made with local/own grown produce. Host is available to fetch you from Shizhuo bus stop to the stay from 2PM onwards. Unless you have a car, plan your visit to Shizhuo well and choose a stay close to the things you want to see as hike trailheads/ attractions can be far apart from each other. With that said there are enough interesting things near to this stay like the coffeeshop which offers regional beans and a decent hike!

United StatesI was so, so charmed by this little bed and breakfast! It is in easy walking distance to some fantastic coffee nearby AND a section of trails (Muhi trail). The operator is also very generous and welcoming and happy to help with getting you to and from town. From town, it's a very easy ride to Alishan, which was incredible to hike through during the day. (Not sure how one might get there for the famed sunrise, though...)

SingaporeThe water heater is a little erratic. It's difficult to control the hot water so it's either too hot or too cold.
The scenery and the host. Beautiful place and very friendly and nice host. The food is good and the DIY leather experience is something which you do not get to experience in most places but it helps to get you entertained as there is no TV in the room.

CanadaA unique and welcoming place to stay. As the name suggests, it's a place aboriginal craft leather carving happens but the host family also runs a lovely simple place to stay with dinner and breakfast available. Well placed in the tea gardens for the many attractions of Alishan, I heartily recommend this hostelry.

SingaporeMinor thing - we found it quite hard to adjust the shower temperature, it varied wildly between cold and very hot. The location is really a distance away from public transport, so I recommend this place more so for travellers who are driving.
We LOVED the smell of wood the moment you enter the room! The interior design is amazing, it's very homey. The lady boss was also very kind, she shuttled us to and fro between the accommodation and Shizhuo bus stop. However, please note that this service is only available from 2pm onwards, as they are very busy in the morning. They have a few kittens and a small aviary at there, which is a nice treat to see!

GermanyNothing bothered us
Very positively surprised by this homestay! The bungalow was super comfy, quiet and had beautiful views into the forest and the tea fields! The location is very convention if you have a car - close to the town and hikes! The host was very lovely and we got along with the translation app. What we loved most was the homemade dinner (350 per person) - it was so delicious and varied. Breakfast was very typical Taiwanese (rice, cabbage etc.) but also very tasty 😊 overall, a very lovely and memorable stay in the middle of the tea area

NetherlandsMattress wasn't so comfortable.
Loved the ambience of the homestay with its view over the tea plantations, the garden with all the animals, and the fact that it was a drive away from Alishan National Park. We wouldn't have enjoyed staying in the park so we were happy that we rented a car. It gave us more flexibility (and you could park at the homestay). The accommodation was spacious and clean, the food was tasty and the hostess was super friendly. Despite her not speaking any English, she made it work with her translation app. Thank you for the hospitality! We would stay here again!

PhilippinesIt might be far from the center but I believe the host offers to pick you up and drop you off at the bus stop if you’d like. I recommend you rent a car like we did, you will enjoy the scenery very well.
We are already planning our next stay here again next year. That’s how we loved our time here, we regret not staying here earlier and longer. The host, 邱梅惠, was the best. She tried her best to speak to us in our language (through a translator app). She laughed when we made mistakes, which made us very comfortable and at home. It’s so peaceful here and the ambiance is just beautiful. Her pet birds wake you up very nicely in the morning and she serves a very healthy and hearty breakfast that we appreciated even if it was mostly vegetables. The room is VERY BIG, CLEAN, and COZY. You get a beautiful view of the forest and the sound of the river. I recommend requesting for the room in the farthest right to get a view of the mountains.

United KingdomThis is a super place, right in the middle of the tea plantation and bamboo forest. We left the windows open while sleeping and really sounds like you are in the wild! The place is also super cute and most importantly very clean!! The host was amazing and help us with bus timings and she would drop us and pick us up. No one spoke English, but this was no issue via using translator apps. We recommend this place!!

United StatesNothing . The owners are very hospitable.
The owners were so helpful. Jing offered to pick me up from the bus stop. I walked . It took a leisurely 35 minutes. About 80 % of the way, an older couple with the ubiquitous small 4 wheel drive mini truck gave me a ride.I sat on the bed. As you can see the locals are warm and welcoming. The next day the owner took me to a trail head to hike and offered to pick me up . I walked back. I went to buy tea. The owner insisted to take me to town. The hotel is a garden of eden. It is decorated in lights and appears like a shining crown amongst tea plantations. There is a big bird cage filled with mor 20 colorful birds. Some birds appeared to follow me. There is a black and white cat. 3 dogs that you only see if you stay behind after breakfast. I saw 2 of them. A sausage dog and a bull dog. In the dining room is an enormous fish tank. There are bananas that you can help yourself. The dinners and the included breakfast were delicious. There are many kinds of orchids. They are amazing. Jing has a leather workshop that you can buy her labor of love. The room is big. It has a sofa, a heater, electric water kettle and tea bags. The wifi worked reasonably well . You can better reception in the dining room. There are seating areas in the front patio.
