Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkThe room was incredibly cold, and there were no heating options. Waited for a very long time at the reception to check in as there was nobody.
Great location, comfortable bed. View is great (though it also overlooks a parking lot).

SingaporeWifi could have been a bit stronger, it was quite spotty especially in the evenings when people are back in the property.
Excellent location a stone's throw away from Jiufen old street. Beds were comfy and the aircon was strong (helpful in the balmy June weather). However, do note that there is no lift, and no direct way to reach the property other than climbing down a relatively short flight of stairs. People with mobility issues (or who are unwilling to carry their luggage up and down) should not book this property. Price was also very affordable, so all in all value for money.

United StatesThey rooms are definitely dated. The AC is good when on, but the building overall is muggy/humid.
The location is very convenient, close to Juifen Old Street and the Old Street bus stop. The owner/hotel keeper is super friendly and personable. He runs the hotel with his wife and has a very extensive kite collection in the basement (aka the museum) and will happily provide a very informative tour. It feels like a hostel school groups might stay at (?) and has a very welcoming atmosphere. Because the building is very tall you have a fantastic view of the valley below.

MalaysiaI didn't really like the hospitality given by the owner/staff, though he answered all our questions well but not in a friendly way. There is no lift in the building, so i would really appreciate if they can assist to carry the bag for us especially ladies with 15kg bag going down 2 floors. In such case, i would advise anyone that booked this hotel to carry light weight bags, or else you gonna suffer.
Cleanliness of the room. Facilities provided were complete as well. Distance to Jiufen night market is about 1--15minutes walk with street lights along the way, and the owner of hotel provided us clear direction as well. Beautiful sea view from the sea view room.

AustraliaStairs getting to the accommodation and only stairs/no lift in the accommodation, so be aware of this if you're carrying big luggages. Bathroom is small and a bit old.
The owner was prompt in providing instructions about how to get to the accommodation. The quadruple room with seaview is on the top floor(5th floor) of the reception which means we did not have to carry our luggage up or down the stairs. The room was very spacious and had a beautiful view of the town and sea. Basic amenities provided. Shared kitchen space provides hot water and some snacks and tea.

United StatesYou can hear a lot of noise in the whole building. At 8:00 AM, we got awaken by workers working on remodeling another room. Some family were also yelling at each other for about 10 minutes and we heard everything they said. Also I asked for two extra blankets before bed time knowing that the temperature is dropping but the counter person was very hesitant. He said there are already one blanket on each bed. Finally he agreed to give me one extra blanket instead of two that we needed. There are water stains on the ceilings.
I liked the shower the best. Water pressure was strong. Hot water came on quickly. The beds were the hard style we liked. Good quality shampoo and shower gel. Clean beds and sheets.

MalaysiaThe access to the homestay by stairs only, it’s pretty far by foot, and more difficult if you have a lot of luggage’s. The homestay doesn’t provide any resource to help the tenant to transfer their luggage. Not a good place for elderly people or people with physical disabilities.
The homestay has many collections of kites and surrounded by hills and overseeing the north’s east coast has a scenic view, beautiful views of mountains and just near jiufen old street-a famous spot for small food stalls, tea houses, souvenir shops, etc

NetherlandsThe worst by far thing about our stay was the accuracy and communication. I was told to park somewhere and then call them when parked, to give me instructions on the easiest way to go to the hotel. I texted as a heads up before we arrived, we parked, I saw no response, I called again, texted again, no response. Had to go via Google maps, which (as we realized later) made us do an unnecessary circle around the place of 12 minutes walk, up and down narrow steep steps, characteristic after all of the village. Would have rather avoided it in this case of course. Arrived at the reception finally; no one there, so we also had to wait a few minutes further for someone to show up. Cherry on the top, later that evening around 8-9pm, hours after check in, I receive the following as an answer to my afternoon text: “Just follow the maps”. Felt like a joke…
Good location, simple but clean room, good bed, all in all, basic but good. Water dispenser available and small window view if you get a room with view.

SingaporeThe room which we booked was very small for 4pax and there is not sufficient space for us to walk around (until we upgrade to a more spacious room). Many mosquitoes. Beddings and comforters were quite old. Not very convenient for elderly. Need to climb a lot of stairs to the old street until we discovered that we can walk along the road to the old street which is really a relief.
There was no breakfast provided. Location was great but bear in mind if you are travelling with elderly it is not very convenient. There is quite a long stairs to climb for you to check in, going out for shopping, etc and back. It will be quite hectic for the elderly. This mingshu provides a free guide tour which we really likes and learnt quite a lot of kites.

Singapore.
The owner takes pride in his b&b and provides a very comfortable bed and quilt. Cleanliness is superb. My quadruple room on the 3rd floor is very spacious and faces greenery. The double room on the 4th floor has mountain and sea view. The kite museum is a display of the owner's father lifetime passion of kite collection and the tour is held at 8pm. To reach the b&b, you need to first locate the signboard by the road and walk down a flight of steps. The owner did inform us that the hot shower would take a minute to work, so be very careful as the water can suddenly turned scalding hot.

ItalySome things can be improved. The hot water for one. I was told that since they use boiler, I had to wait a bit until the hot water comes out. That was true, except once it came out and I tried to adjust the temperature it just became cold water and I spent 15 minutes trying to get the hot water out again without any success. My husband managed to get the hot water out later but I was already too cold to return to the bathroom. There were two AC units mounted on the wall. We figured that they might be working as heater as well. We tinkered with the remote control for a good 15 minutes with no success.
The location is great. The hotel itself perched on the mountain side with a clear view as far as Keelung port. Bed is very comfortable, and the amenities are good enough. Note: do follow the hotel’s direction. My husband decided to get off on the different stop and we had to climb quite some stairs to get into the hotel. They provide hot water for tea, and a communal fridge. Since the place is practically a guesthouse, the door closes at 10pm. We could call if we get locked outside, but trust me, Jiufen turns into a dead city after 9pm anyway. So it was not a problem.

CanadaThe beds were very hard and the WiFi was unusable.
The location (other than the uncontrolled crossing of the main road to get to old street) was nice and quiet (even though you can clearly hear your neighbors in the room next to you). The shower was nice and hot and comfortable.
