Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThe host was very helpful and responsive, she's also very knowledgeable about Alishan area and was always ready to offer help and tips about sightseeing in Alishan. The breakfast served was homely, which I enjoyed. The room was big and spacious, with blanket heaters as it can get really cold at night. The bed was very comfortable.

SingaporeNothing. Everything was great.
We stayed in December as a family of three people. We are very grateful to the family for taking such good care of us. They are really exceptional hosts. They arranged our transport to their property at a very last minute notice and even gave us trips to various attractions around the area during our stay. Wendy even helped checked the bus timetable for us to go up to Alishan and gave us useful advice for the later part of the trip. There is a sunset viewing deck very near the property and there is a trail to the tea plantation that is just at the front of the property. We got to enjoy the walks around the very scenic area. Our room was very comfortable with huge glass panels from which we could see the ‘sea of clouds’ in the evening. We could walk out to nearby eateries for dinner in the evening. Excellent host, wonderful property and great location.

United StatesStaying here was great! The owners went above and beyond to help me during my stay, even picking me up from Fenqihu and taking me to the train station again after my stay. The view is incredible from the rooms, and from the trail near by. Will recommend to anyone I know visiting Taiwan.

MalaysiaWe arrive quite late , about 4.30pm to the homestay and left early next day for sunrise view on Alishan. Was hoping to experience drinking local tea in the homestay but didn't manage to. It would be great if the homestay could offer to make tea and introduce local tea to us since it's a tea farm. We left the homestay early in the morning ,before 5am for sunrise view up on Alishan mountain The homestay didn't offer to pack any breakfast for us even though we did informed in advance.
Manage to catch a very nice sunset from the nearby viewing platform near from hotel. Nice weather and clear sky with stars. Cute dogs and we are basically staying in their home but at different section. We got to use the huge common area just outside our room to have a drink at night which is nice as 5 of us are sharing a room. Nice and comfortable family room even though lack of hangers / wardrobe to hang clothes.

SingaporeAbsolutely enjoyable experience. Our host Wendy was so friendly, helpful and responsive to our various questions even before our trip! She even drove us to and from the main bus stop, our day trip to Fenqihu, and into town for meals. She gave us great advice on things to do in the area, and even our subsequent travels in Taiwan. Her family is warm and friendly, and the farm is so cute and accessible to nearby trails.

United StatesIt's an uphill walk from town and the bus station. (The trade-off is that it's right at a hiking trailhead.) It's a small operation, so you'll need to wait when the host is picking up or orienting other guests.
The surrounding tea farm is beautiful. The host puts a lot of effort into making the stay as comfortable as possible - offering rides into town, setting up our sightseeing itinerary, correcting our bus timetable information. Room was spotlessly clean and every feature was in great working order. Breakfast was tasty enough to change my mind about congee, and the house tea was delicious enough to confirm my love of high mountain oolong - make sure to sit for a tasting session! While the host spoke little English, she was remarkably adept at Google Translate. Our interactions were maybe the most frictionless translated conversations I've ever had.

AustraliaWe came by bus and walked up OK from the bus stop for 20 minutes but we only had small backpacks. If you had larger luggage and didn't come by car the steep hill up to the homestay would be insurmountable. You can book a pickup and a drop off with the hosts or take a taxi. No matter how young and fit you are, it's just not that easy to walk down into town and back up several times for meals during your stay if you don't have a car. Nor does the room have fridge to store drinks or food for self catering, although the guest dining room does have a big fridge that you can ask to use.
The views including sunset from the Quadruple Room with Garden View is amazing, there was no need to leave the room to see the theatrical cloud show, even though there is a wonderful viewing platform 2 minutes walk up the road. The room was huge and the windows were nice and big to take in the view of the tea farms around. We loved chilling out in the room watching the view change as the weather rolled in. We wished we stayed 2 nights here instead of one. Hiking around the nearby trails and even just walking along the quiet little roads through the tea farms, even when it was misty and raining was beautiful. Most importantly, the host family is friendly and took good care of us for breakfast and dinner, even making sure we caught the bus to our next destination.

SingaporeNil, but note that the mattress is harder than usual.
The homestay owners were really helpful and went above and beyond in terms of service! They fetched us to and fro several places at no additional charge (such as Fenqihu, Shizhuo town area) and even sent our luggage to our hotel in Alishan so we could start hiking immediately upon arriving at the recreation park. They provided recommendations for sunrise/sunset viewpoints in Shizhuo and activities in Alishan upon check-in. They can even drive you up to the sunrise/sunset viewpoint located along an uphill hiking trail, but we didn't take up the offer. The owners are happy to sit down with you for a tea-drinking session and share about their tea farming, way of life, and local F&B recommendations - that's how we ended up visiting Zou Coffee (zouzhouyuan), a cafe selling self-grown award-winning coffee. The owners also painstakingly prepared breakfast and dinner (costs NTD350 per person) and try to change up the menu every time. It's comforting and wholesome home-cooked food. Overall, we were really impressed by their generosity and friendliness!
