Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThere was nothing we didn’t like - staying here in beautiful Shizhuo was a highlight of our trip and we would highly recommend
Our hosts were very welcoming, we loved getting to make some tea which helped us understand and appreciate the tea process more, we also enjoyed the firefly tour. The breakfast they cooked was delicious and we liked how all the rooms came off a central living and dining space which felt very communal and friendly. The farm is a short walk from the centre of Shizhuo and close to beautiful hiking trails through tea farms.

SingaporeKitchen could be cleaner but it’s not a deal breaker.
The hosts were very accomodating and helpful. They tried their best to make each guest feel welcomed and shared their passion for tea culture. Definitely try the tea picking experience, the tea plantation is right at their door step. OK’s their dog; she helped to guide hikers on various paths.

SingaporeIt was a magical "studio ghibli -liked" experience. We had a firefly tour in the evening then tea picking experience the next day (at an affordable additional cost for the activities). We particularly loved the tea picking experience as it was our first time (and I believe a rather rare opportunity) to experience picking leaves from the plantation, drying them and packing them into paper bags which we could bring home as souvenirs. It was also culturally immersive to hear the process of tea making while having tea and chatting with the hosts and other travellers. The hosts were pleasant and friendly people who helped us in getting our way around Alishan and down the mountain to Chiayi train station. It's actually more convenient than I thought. There is a three-legged pet dog (and pet cats!) called OK at the homestay. On our last day the host got OK to bring us to the bus stop and she did a good job doing that. Was simply amazing! If you wanna experience the activities here be sure to note the months: - Firefly watching: April, May, June - Tea picking and making: April till December - Sunset and sea of clouds view: March till November - Avoid the months of summer heat from May to October.

United StatesThe caretaker and owners are all good people. They care about their customers. Thank you Joyce 😍 for going above & beyond the duties of a caretaker. Story time: We only stayed 1 night in this homestay Tian Yi Homestay, because there was no more available days we can book. They brought us to our next homestay, which was not so far from them, but still, we need to drive there. So while we were on our next homestay (TianLong Tea Homestay), which was far from 7/11 or any restaurant for that matter, they dont offer breakfast for their customers, (we were never offered any) the caretaker just gave us a 7/11 card worth 200 taiwan dollars. I called Joyce and told her my mom needs breakfast because she’s a diabetic, Joyce told me that she will take care of it and bring us breakfast where we were staying…i was ro relieved because we didn’t have to walk going to 7/11 (which was like 20 mins walk from the homestay). I couldn’t thank her enough for bringing breakfast for all of us not just my mom! Thank you so much Joyce! I will never forget your kindness!

ThailandThe toilet had a continuous drip that we could hear throughout the night. They did not provide us with a key to our room. It would have been nice to have a heater in the room as it was cold in the mornings/evenings in February. However, the blankets were warm enough at night.
The people who ran the place were lovely, funny, and kind. They picked and dropped us off at the bus station, which was convenient. The beds were very comfortable, and the breakfast served was plentiful. We loved Guy, their dog, who followed us all over town!

United StatesThe beds are very firm and we had some trouble sleeping.
A really beautiful area with some nice hikes nearby. If you don’t have a car and don’t speak Chinese, you are very dependent on the kindness of the hosts to navigate the area. Fortunately, the hosts were beyond generous. Dinner is not included; there’s a small village nearby you can walk to but our host drove all her guests to a local restaurant and we had a great meal family style (she ordered for us).

Convenient, easy to move around, viewing decks can see beautiful sea of cloud and sunset. Walking trails near Tianyi’s tea plantations, with Lots of plants and birds. The owner (Mr Teng) owner’s daughter (Miss Teng) and housekeeper (Joyce) are approachable and caring. Offered transports to pick us from bus stop and dining places. Miss Teng provided good suggestions to hike in Alisan with clear map and instructions. She is knowledgeable and resourceful, and went the extra miles to fetch us to and fro to dinning place. Also provided personal service to HSR station.

United StatesI had a phenomenal time at Tianyi Homestay. The area surrounding Tianyi is beautiful and I spent my time hiking through the tea fields. I was able to catch multiple sunrises and sunsets - all spectacular. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable, and the staff were so kind and helpful. Special shoutout to Joyce, who made my stay extra special! One of the highlights was going to hotpot with Joyce and the rest of the people staying at Tianyi on New Years Eve- a NYE I will remember forever!

MalaysiaThere was no heating but they gave us extra blankets and the shower was hot, so not a problem in the end
This family-run place was perfect for our stay. They have a tea farm and we managed to learn so much about tea and even 'made' our own tea! Everyone was welcoming, generous, sincere and I liked their passion for Taiwan, tea and making friends. The place itself was very clean, the beds were super comfortable and the location was great as it was near to town, had a sunset point and is also near the start of trails. I could not have found a better place to stay. Would stay here again and definitely recommend this place.

AustraliaAs it is a homestay, modest accommodation is expected. I felt that the thin pillows were due for a refresh, having something more plush would've made for a more pleasant sleep. The walls are very thin and you can literally hear other people in their rooms, even conversations. If that is not for you, please don't stay here. Thankfully everyone was very considerate and careful to reduce noise in the nighttime.
Fantastic location overlooking tea fields and close to trails in the area. Expect mountain mist and waking up to clean quiet air. The homestay hosts are incredibly generous and their tea table was constantly flowing with their own tea (mixiang hongcha and oolong). OK the rescue dog is gorgeous and will often accompany you on your walks as your guide! The family is incredibly warm and had great knowledge of the area. They lent us maps and offered to drive us out for dinner, and provided daily breakfast.

United StatesI can't say enough about the warmth and hospitality of the hosts at Tianyi Homestay. They welcomed us by sitting us down and brewing us tea picked from their family tea farm; gave us a detailed rundown of hikes in town as well as how to spend a day at Alishan, complete with maps and transit times; advised us on where and when to catch the buses each time we went out; and, when a typhoon rolled in on the last day, they organized a shared car to drive all the guests to the train station, so that we wouldn't risk getting stranded by disruptions to public transit. We had a home-cooked breakfast (and more home-brewed tea) every morning. And with multiple cats, and a dog, to hang out with, it doesn't get much more homey than that.
