Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThere isn't anything I disliked at Tianyi, but it's worth pointing out this is a real, working tea farm. There are pets and machinery and the boss sings karaoke in the basement! The common area has stuff piled up and it's not super clean. This was my most expensive room rate in Taiwan, but it was worth the money for the Alishan experience. Check if you need to pay cash as the credit card machine is not always working.
The hosts at Tianyi are wonderful. They make it a real Homestay with their genuine and personal customer service. You don't feel like a customer though, more like a long-lost friend or relative! The optional tea making and firefly tours are a joy, and the provided food and teas are authentic, delicious and never-ending! I easily walked to the Shizhou 7322 bus stop with my big pack (15 min). My lovely fellow guests from the Phillipines and I also got help with local trails and bus 7322 movements.

SingaporeNothing!
The BnB was located on a beautiful tea farm with adorable cats and dogs. The breakfast was homecooked and the hosts were absolutely lovely - they personally drove us to see fireflies at a local spot along with the other guests! Rooms were comfortable but basic. I also bought the tea produced at the tea farm which was light and fragrant.

SingaporeNothing, literally perfect. Do bear in mind it is incredibly quiet at night.
The staff are some of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever met in my travels. Although we slept in and missed breakfast time, they kept food for us as they knew we were tired from the previous day. They were also so helpful with giving tips on the nearby trails and getting around Alishan forest area!

United StatesThe bathroom didn't have the best ventilation and the shower didn't have a curtain or door, so the bathroom stayed wet for a long time after showering. Not a big deal, but a new fan would probably go a long way towards improving it.
The location is excellent. It is close to various trails through the tea fields. We visited during cherry blossom season so it was especially beautiful. The hosts were very helpful and friendly (though most of them didn't speak much English). They made their tea for us, they helped us plan our visit to Alishan, they drove us to dinner and the bus stop, and when we lost a phone on a bus they contacted the bus operator to help us retrieve it.

SloveniaA very friendly family who welcomed us warmly. The location of the accommodation is among the tea fields, which is very nice. There is also a parking space on the property. The rooms are pleasant, with enough warm blankets for cold evenings. A variety of Taiwanese breakfast is available.

SingaporeIt is right next to the Love trail and tea plantation. Close enough to walk to Sakura trail. Very friendly owners who go out of their way to fetch us to/from 奋起湖 , start of walking trails as well as to 石卓 for dinner. They always make tea for us when we come back. They are very engaging and friendly. We enjoyed walking their dog OK and playing with their three cats! Although furnishings are basic, it is clean. They also organise fireflies walk for a reasonable fee. Highly recommend if you want to enjoy the Taiwanese hospitality.

GermanyThis is the right place if you want to dig into Alishan's tea culture. The team, especially our host Tin, was very pleasant, very friendly and could tell everything about tea. It is a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, in the outdoor lobby you get in touch with the team and other travellers easily. We spent several hours in tea-tastings and enjoyed the great surrounding. Thanks for being our host!

GermanyThis place is amazing! The owners are lovely and very helpful. They welcome you with a true tea ceremony of their own tea (which you can buy right there), they often drive you to places, and can recommend itineraries. Two people speak English, so communication isn't a problem. I also liked the three cats and the rescued three-legged dog. The room was great too, very spacious and clean with basic hygienic products. There's a good vibe to this homestay and they really do make you feel at home. Besides, the tea farm is on site, you sit shoulder to shoulder to it having breakfast. You can directly start hiking the trails from the house as you reach the start of mist trail in 20 minutes. From the shops and bus stop in town it's 15 minutes walking uphill (not too steep). You don't have to go anywhere for the sunset, at the house you have a great view over the tea farm and the mountains. The whole area is just beautiful and not as touristy as other places. I totally recommend!

The japanese style room was lovely and with an amazing view. The family that runs the business are really nice, they offer a tea ceremony, and take you around when needed for hikes or buses. The area around is super beautiful, and relatively unspoiled by tourism. It's a real gem in Taiwan.

SingaporeIt can be a little cold up the mountains during the December period and there aren't any bed warmers or heaters in the room. That brings the comfort level down a little, but in general it is very tolerable! This won't be the ideal place for an extremely comfortable stay, what they do provide is basic amenities to keep you clean, dry, and mostly warm.
Tianyi is the ideal place for tea enthusiasts who want to learn more about Alishan tea production and taste. We learnt to pick tea leaves, which we then cooked and tried the next day. The most standout feature of this homestay is its people. The owners genuinely care about this lifestyle business, and will go out of their way to work things out for you. They helped us plan our trips around Alishan, offered to ride us around the area, and even sent my belonging to my next hotel when I had accidentally left it behind upon checking out. Everyone is warm and friendly, I really enjoyed it here.

United Statessuper host A-tun. She made tea (oolong and red/black tea grown on the homestay/farm) for us on multiple occasions. She shared much about local attractions from nearby markets/cities, drove us to nearby restaurants for lunches/dinners. She shared about local history (cultural, social, and political) that gave me a deeper sense of what it is like to be a Taiwanese multigenerational farming family in the Alishan region. Her dad, Mr. Tun, cooked a traditional Taiwanese breakfast for us, let our son pick chayotes from their farm (which we ate the next morning). We learn much about the drying and fermentation processing for tea from the family. Thanks you A-tun & Mr. Tun. The homestay is on and near various scenic hiking trails (some within driving distance, one directly walkable from the homestay). Beautiful location whether sunny, foggy, or raining.
