Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaOur hosts were incredible, and treated us and all the guests like family. Tianyi was the highlight of our 4 week stay in Taiwan. Really close to some amazing hiking paths, including Sakura trail. Shizhou is a 10min walk down the hill and has great public transport connections.

United StatesThe whole family is wonderful! I felt welcomed at this homestay, and I loved the tea. They invited me to a tea ceremony among the cherry blossoms. They also drove me to places and helped me with the bus schedule. The accommodation was comfortable and right next to a beautiful sunset spot. If I’m ever back in the area, I will definitely stay here again.

The staff was so friendly and I really felt welcome there. The grounds were absolutely beautiful with a sunset viewing spot right in the middle of the tea fields.

Amazing homestay experience with Tianyi! The place was sparkling clean, spacious and we truly enjoyed our stay here. The host and her family was exceptionally welcoming and responded to our queries promptly and patiently. They asked about our itinerary during our stay and recommended us places to go and do. They also offered us freshly brewed hot tea or coffee whenever we are back from exploring Alishan. Would love to come back to stay if we have a chance to and would highly recommend any one who is going to Alishan.

PhilippinesGenerally liked our accommodations. The only downside would probably be the lack of storage space in our room. Bidet also was not working but it’s fine
Cozy homestay with a gorgeous view, wonderfully kind family, and excellent organic Alishan high mountain tea! This was absolutely the highlight of our trip to Taiwan. The home itself is surrounded by tea farms which our host family was so kind to let us experience so freely. We got to go tea picking, roasting and they even gave us our own stash to bring home. You must buy their oolong and black teas - they are delicious! Their resident cat is also so cute. Around the home there are a lot of easy but beautiful trails to try. Our hosts were so kind to drive us to and fro the bus stops in Fenqihu and Shizhuo (to go to Alishan) when needed, and even shared dinner recommendations and itinerary suggestions! They also brought us to nearby cherry blossom orchards which was so lovely. The views are also so breathtaking and stunning. You just feel healed and tranquil in this homestay. We left Tianyi with all our expectations surpassed and only with warm memories and the best high mountain tea ever!!

Hong KongNo heater in the room though I understand from the host that rarely did you go to that cold during the days that we were there.
The hospitality of the hosts, the proximity to the tea garden and the free shuttle to and fro the bus stop to Alishan.

AntarcticaNot sure what warrants the high review score this place has but we felt quite unwelcome during our stay. Things started badly straight away when checking in after a long journey we were welcomed with the staff chasing us for payment (cash only) and telling us what not to do with no mention of anything helpful. One morning we also didn't really get any breakfast for whatever reason, only a bag of assorted things eggs, sandwiches and one packaged pastry thrown on a table we had to sift through along with all the other guests. We would have booked elsewhere but everywhere was fully booked.
The location is good and the views are stunning.

United KingdomThe fact that we were told we could pay by credit card and then cash was asked for payment. Meant a drive into town when we were tired and extra fees for withdrawing money from the only ATM at 7-11. If we had been forewarned, we could have gone to a bank and had the cash ready to pay. The bed was uncomfortable.
Nice location amongst tea fields and great views! The lady on reception was very friendly. A few parking spaces were available outside the property, but a small walk up the hill had more spaces. Shower and wifi were good.

United StatesThe pictures were misrepresentative of the room. I did not look out my window to rows of tea leaves and mist rolling into my window... I'm not sure one can technically call this a homestay- a surprising number of rooms for tourists are in a barracks-like building next to the home(?)
The hosts are the star of the show~ they are willing to scooter or drive you around to desired destinations, hang out together over tea or libations and connect you with the other guests, and go out of their way to accommodate you. The trails and main town area are nearby. There is parking at the property, and an extra lot at the main road. The "pets" are permanent idols to the property and staying on a tea farm delivers some spectacular ambiance and views. A 2 night stay was perfect
