Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIn the public spaces it was pretty grubby but - my room was clean and it was a cheap place and did the job fine
Tucked down a little alley way it was off the clamor of the Hanoi streets

CanadaLocation was great. Very central but because it is located back from the street quite quiet at night. Comfortable bed and decent sized room, staff was very friendly.

IrelandThe walls between rooms are a little thin, so you can hear other guests in the guesthouse if they are loud, but this was not a big deal for us.
We found this hotel great value for money. The rooms are nice and big and the shower was lovely and strong. The lady managing the hotel is also very sweet. It is literally hidden from the streets so there is no noise coming in from the outside.

Brunei DarussalamIt truly is a hidden guesthouse, but nicely located in Old Quarter which means it is easy to get around by foot. The Hoan Kiem river is just a few mins walk and at night, you can easily get to the streets of night market, "party street" etc. Because it was cold, no aircond was needed (not sure if there is heater though), but it was a good stay PS, highly recommend to book a pick up from airport with them as Grab is hard to get upon arrival and taxi costs a lot, about 500k dong

PhilippinesThe only downside is it gets cold at night, especially during winter season. But everything else is excellent!
The location is very central! The room is huge with a balcony and private bathroom. Wi-Fi is very high speed. The family is very helpful too, they are always there ready to help. 🌟🌟🌟

United KingdomThe hustle and bustle and noise of hanoi, but then I don't like cities, so any city would have made me feel the same. Sometimes it has to be done though, for the experience.
Quiet location off the street, easy to walk to hoan kiem lake, luckily we stayed over the weekend which was closed off to vehicles so a much more relaxed feel when not having to navigate the busy roads with all of that crazy traffic....and constant car and scooter horns.

United KingdomThere aren’t enough places to leave your clothes. The reception area could be more welcoming.
A great location but in a quiet alley. Traditional room with high ceiling & balcony. Good fan & air conditioning & comfortable bed.

South AfricaWe have been back to this guest house a couple of times. The family are very friendly and easy going, and it’s comfortable, clean and well-situated. Our room was a good size, and being out of season the rates were particularly good.

South AfricaLeaving Hanoi!
So, it is called the "Hidden Guesthouse" and lives up to its name - popping up in a small square, down a little alleyway -but suddenly you're in a charming family run guesthouse in which a beautiful winding wooden staircase takes you upstairs to large, well appointed, clean and really comfortable rooms. All together a very happy experience.

IndonesiaThe staff were very helpful, and the location is close to the lake. The room was cozy, making for a comfortable stay. It was my first time visiting Hanoi, and they made our trip much easier. You can rent motorbikes or book a bus to Ninh Binh just by asking the staff. The prices for all services were also very reasonable.

New ZealandThe access down alleyway was quite dingy but thats a fairly minor thing. Making travel arrangements was a very long process, even booking a taxi. Harley is the only one who can speak English well. So Google translate was needed, but the staff did do their best to help.
Beautiful old wooden house near the Old Quarter and lake and not far to the Temple of Literature and Koto restaurant. Friendly helpful staff and very clean and comfortable accommodation with aircon. It is truly hidden away in a small street and down a dark little alleyway, but the staff come out to show you the way if you catch their shuttle. It is fairly quiet being off the street.

New ZealandRoom not up to scratch, was underwhelmed given previous reviews. Bit under-maintained and window nailed shut so couldnt get to shutters which were closed so not much natural light. Got moved to room at top with huge windows. Was great but neon strip lighting and felt a bit like an office (furniture, doors etc) so wouldnt recommend for a romantic trip. Perfect for watching a storm though.
Nice staff, helpful and accommodating. And yes, it is peaceful despite the excellent, busy location.

United KingdomTV couldn't get channels but that's very minor issue. Balcony just looked into neighbouring buildings, rather than courtyard at front.
Loved its location. It was bang in the middle of the Old Quarter, near the lake and Beer Street, but down a quiet alley so weren't disturbed by noise. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was comfy, and shower and fridge really good. Loved the old skool style of the place.

United KingdomWe were on the top floor and there was a small leak in the roof during a storm, but wasn’t really an issue
Big, spacious and clean rooms in a great location. It’s easy to find as the alleyway has a sign as you approach it off the Main Street and through the alley too. Would stay here again!

PolandWe could hear our neighbors well, walls are very thin and the door to our room had a glass - not transparent but we could see the light when they came back in the middle of the night and woke us up.
Very good location - in Old Quarter but in a bit more silent street than all the other streets. Recommend if you want to stay in that area and can't stand the street noise.

United KingdomThere is a minor ant problem (just don’t leave any food out and use the fridge), the pressure in the top room was not great, and the bottom room had no windows. But none of these things were a huge concern to us.
Modern and clean, good facilities including hair dryer, fridge, wardrobe space and kettle. Our first two nights spent here, we lucked out and got the top room with an awesome view and big windows all around (only downside- lots of steps if you don’t like steps). For our second stay we stayed in the ground floor annexe like room. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. On our last day in Hanoi they allowed us to use the shower in the reception after our gym session and before our overnight bus, so we were super grateful! And ideal location of course.
