Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandBrian, who manages the hotel, is perhaps the rudest, most unpleasant person I have met in hospitality. We are well travelled and have never met someone so unsuited to guest contact. Brian’s tantrum when we refused to move rooms, after moving rooms already because of a broken aircon, is beyond words. We spent the first night (of five nights) without aircon in heat so stifling that we lay sweating all night. Julie, who was helpful and endeavoured to sort this out, arranged a different room for us (thanks Julie), but Brian was unhappy with this and asked us to move out of the room, on New Year’s Day no less. When I refused to move again, he tantrumed and huffed in a manner reminiscent of a child not getting their own way. He also, upon check in, suggested we carry rocks and a stick to beat village dogs when we go for a walk, which left us aghast at such brazen suggestions of cruelty (we are both vegetarian and animal lovers). On our last night, a rather large rat kept us awake as it rustled through the rubbish bins in the room. Several attempts to usher the rat out at 1am and 2am and 3am proved unsuccessful. Some closer and thorough cleaning of rooms is needed; we found plasters on the floor of the room, along with other random bits of rubbish that had not been picked up by the cleaners prior to us occupying the room.
The staff at this resort were excellent, with the exception of Brian (see more below); staff were courteous, helpful, eager to help, and lovely. We stayed in a fale over the water, which was fabulous as an experience. We found the resort food edible and pleasant, with a setting that made for an even better experience for dinner and other meals. Julie and the reception staff were amazing and helpful; they deserve a special mention, as do many of the staff in the restaurant for whom nothing was too much effort.

United KingdomSome of the facilities were closed e.g. pool bar. Breakfast was subpar. No indoor entertainment - would have been nice to have a covered are with a pool table/table tennis etc as some days the weather wasn't great.
Great welcome with complementary drinks, beautiful grounds, proximity to the beach. Location near other resorts was nice as it gave us lots of options for evening meals.

New ZealandThe beds, while comfortable, are on the firm side. Just something to be aware of. Apart from that no real complaints.
The breakfast included was delicious with fresh fruit every morning and a choice of cereal, toast, or croissant. The location is amazing on a beautiful white sand beach within a sheltered lagoon. The tree house rooms are spacious and loved being surrounded by trees and looking out over the pond when it rained, it made even the bad weather enjoyable! The staff were amazing. All very friendly and helpful. The cultural experience and fiafia night was the cherry on top of a great, relaxing week away. Also make sure you go for a walk in the village. It was great to see real life and the locals were all friendly.

AustraliaThere is nowhere else to eat apart from the resort unless you have a car. It was an expensive stay, but then we did go for an overwater bungalow. Our booking included breakfast, but we only found out when checking out that this was specifically a continental breakfast which would not be the right choice of breakfast in this beautiful place. If you are booking the best/most expensive room in the place it seems reasonable that it should include the breakfast of your choice. That said - we loved our stay.
The over water bungalow was spectacular. One of the best and certainly most spacious hotel rooms I've ever stayed in anywhere in the world. The restaurant was great - delicious food, brilliant cocktail menu and great service. The staff were really friendly. Hard to fault Coconuts Beach Club and Resort. If we ever return to Samoa we would definitely stay here again. I loved that there were no jet skis or banana boats. So peaceful, so relaxing.

AustraliaThere wasn’t really anything not to like.
It was a true paradise and had everything you needed for a top holiday. The snorkelling was great and you can see plenty of turtles from the decking areas without taking a boat trip out.

New ZealandThe price of everything is massive. The first night we stayed in Fale Pale, an unexpected additional night, was very nice but then we moved to Villa Matai which is much more expensive but was not as nice. The view was impeded and the staff kept walking across our outdoor area to get to the neighbouring Fale obviously too lazy to walk around the correct way. Pools of water kept appearing on the bathroom floors as there didn't seem to be a reasonable fall on the floor to promote the water to drain properly.
The fruit platter was lovely. I never got any free breakfast, ordered the cereal the first day plus a paid egg on gluten free toast but never received the cereal, which I was told was one of the 3 free options, and received the gluten free toast but it wasn't toasted and without butter.

AustraliaThe complimentary breakfast was very basic and what was to be included was confusing us and the restaurant staff. A la carte breakfast choices a little pricey. Unreliable internet for which we had to pay and because of unreliability (may be due to bandwidth or difficult weather conditions) we could not tell whether it was simply that we had run out of data. Heavy rain at time of our arrival meant we had to literally wade to reception.
Staff were outstanding, friendly and always helpful. Location was great on an idyllic beach. Lovely welcome drink on arrival. Great that we could eat at any time of day as restaurant was open continuously with breakfast, lunch and dinner menus overlapping.

AustraliaLighting in the dinner hall and accommodation is terrible. Rooms need updating. They’re fairly old and outdated. Bathrooms are really outdated with a musky smell. Owners need to throw money at the resort to update!! Housekeeping is not daily. Really disappointing that only English/non traditional music is only played when you’re in beautiful Samoa! Accounting system is manual and owner is not well versed in explaining the details to guests. I just wanted him to be quiet and go away tbh. Not sure why staff couldn’t explain this to me when I waited at least 15 mins for him to see me, owner wasn’t organised - another disappointment. Beds are very uncomfortable - a piece of foam on top of a mattress. Hopefully you’re not afraid of wildlife as you’ll have geckos in your room. Not harmful, but there was an odd black shavings on the mattress each day and we could not find the source.
Staff were friendly and very helpful. They went out of their way to wait for us to arrive noting that our flight was delayed and we hadn’t eaten yet. Our driver was so helpful and kind. The staff were amazing and the food at the resort was excellent. Breakfast was a standard continental breakfast but if you want something extra this is possible with a fee. Location was good but will need a car to travel around or seek a tour. Fia Fia night was good too. The staff make a huge difference. Lovely local staff that made my stay enjoyable given the negatives.

New ZealandGeneral maintenance is needed for the prices that they are charging. We upgraded to beachfront fale which was good for 3 days then went to overwater fale which was disappointing as outside chairs were broken, hotwater solar heating was leaking by the doorway causing rot, ranchslider flyscreens didn't slide open/closed and construction was going on next to us so lots of banging and machinery (chainsaws etc) so for the amount paid it was not good.
The location is perfect and staff are excellent and very friendly and food was fantastic definately 10/10.
