Maclear Manor is a beautiful place with a stylish, attractive room. The location is great as a good stop on our way to the Cape.

The streets around the property are riddled with potholes. So drive slow and careful.

The bed was comfortable. The manager and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was outstanding

A couple of things: 1. The extra milk in the refrigerator was sour. 2. We could not connect to the Wi-Fi and were told to keep trying or reboot our phones. This did not work. 3. Only feather pillows were available on the beds, and some people are allergic to feathers. Luckily, we had traveled with our own pillows.

It is a beautiful place. We booked a double room but were upgraded to a deluxe room as we were the only guests. Very nice room and bathroom, and the bed was very comfortable.

We were travelling from the winelands to the berg and this filled a gap in an area with a lack of good quality accommodation. Staff were excellent as was breakfast. Room clean and perfectly acceptable

Shower floor was rather slipper which is a concern for us as pensioners

Wifi signal wasn't great in the room we stayed in. TV signal didn't work initially but improved.

Has everything you need for an overnight stop. Despite the initial misgivings of the location, security was good. Large comfortable room, microwave & extras in adjoining kitchen if required. Bonus to have a hair dryer, so many other places don't have.

Water pump was right outside our room which was a little noisy. The back room we were in suffers from some road noise.

The host doesn't stay on the property which was problematic when the lights went out as no one knew how to switch on the generator. When it ran out of fuel, in the morning we had no hot water for coffee or showers.

It was worth waiting for breakfast (only served from 8.30 on weekends). The little touches were very sweet and it was very filling. Loved the fire in the 2nd dining room because of the snow! Although Maclear had a power cut the night we were there, the generator kept the electric blankets on long enough to warm the beds, and the wonderful duvets kept us snug and warm. Our room was very spacious (up some stairs) and we had a beautiful view of the snow covered village from the balcony. It felt like being in a fairy tale. The host recommended the Ranch for dinner which was fabulous. Great food and prices. Friendly service. We appreciated the recommendation. We were grateful for the under cover (secure) parking because of the snow, which made unpacking and packing the car so much easier.

Only the area of the town was a little disconcerting for a city dweller. But we were safe and comfortable and everyone we met was friendly and offered good service.

An exquisite manor house tucked away in the little inland town of Mac Clear. A great place to stop over before the long trip through the Eastern Cape. Lovely friendly host who was very concerned with our welfare and comfort.
