Close to Johannesburg, comfortable bedrooms with all amenities included. Wonderful spa, with awesome therapists. Dina was amazing! Food really delicious, Staff so friendly and helpful. Our Game Ranger Answer was very knowledgeable and we saw incredible sightings!

There was a slight smell from the bathroom in our room. I am not sure if it was the drainage system, but we still loved our experience

Loved the atmosphere the food the staff. Our rangers, Goitse and Thapelo, did a great job. We got to see the big 5 plus hyenas. Best experience ever! We will definitely be coming back

Like at many safari lodges/reserves on the game drives, the trucks all talk to each other which is good if you just want to tick off the big five, but unfortunately leads to the trucks and private cars swarming the big cats, in particular, once they're found. I felt uncomfortable with so many vehicles around the lions. That's just a personal preference though and I know it happens at most reserves. It might be good however for the lodge to ask guests what sort of experience they want and to group people based on whether they want to be part of that. I would have been happy just enjoying the beautiful scenery and the excitement of spotting other smaller game. Water to drink, and hot water bottles for cold early morning drives would also have been good/a nice extra. The only other negative was that there was some major landscaping going on around our room (in June 2024) which compromised privacy a little. It would have been good to know this in advance but we got a discounted rate so can't complain too much. Overall still a wonderful place to stay.

This place is great for a luxurious all inclusive safari lodge. The staff, especially in the restaurant, are so eager to please and the chef is excellent, catering to me being gluten free brilliantly. Game drives are included and the reserve (open to other lodges and private vehicles) has enough game to keep you satisfied but still enjoy the searching. We opted for an executive room which included a great, nicely heated (but not hot) private plunge pool, lounge area, big double indoor and outdoor showers, and a bath. There are only 32 rooms (all individually detached or semi detached single story units which go I the hillside from the main lodge - you get lifts back and forward on a golf cart service which works brilliantly. The hotel is big enough to have all you need, but still feels special and not as corporate as the conference centre may suggest. I was pleasantly surprised in that respect based on the photos.

Delicious food, friendly staff and great game drives! No doubt about it Shepherd’s tree is my favourite lodge in the Pilanesberg, I highly recommend it! Not our first time there and definitely won’t be our last!

This is a personal opinion, the food could be less spicy.

We liked everything about the reservation. Excellent cleanliness, good communication, you are always aware of the activities, friendly and helpful staff. Good quality of food and drink. The best thing about excursions with Megan is she is passionate about her work and looks for animals even under the rocks if necessary
