We are not fans of big hotels and prefer accommodations with local feel. The Fortaleza Suites did not disappoint. It's located in one of the historic houses in the old town. Our apartment was modestly furnished but clean and very spacious. It consisted of living room, full kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The second bedroom and bathroom were on the upper level, accessible by stairs. What surprised us was the complete lack of windows in the apartment. Every room had a small glass sunlight built into the ceiling, providing pleasent ambient light during the day. There is no way to cover them up, so If you need total darkness to sleep, bring an eye mask.
The nice common area, with a little inner court filled with plants, looked tropical and exotic to me.
As described, there is no parking by the hotel. There is no place to stop and unload your luggage either. It's on a narrow, quite busy, one way street. My husband did a 30 second stop, so we could jump out with the luggage. Then he parked in paring garage 2 blocks away and walked back. Since we did not plan to use the car while in San Juan it worked out OK. Thanks to a great location, we were able to walk to all the points of interest.
Overall it was a great stay.

Fantastic location, close to the beach and restaurants. The pools and outdoor areas were nice. Smart TV was good and Internet worked well in the room and outside it. The microwave and fridge are so nice to have, and having a few complimentary drinks was a nice touch.

First of all, the hotel staff was exceptional, no complaints. However the room we had lacked towel racks in the bathroom, anywhere to put shower wash while in the shower! I sat it on the window sill way up. I know they have shower racks for soap and shampoo, I saw them in another room. Also the room we had was small, definitely not what I expected from the website. Also, not too much circulation and felt very humid.

My experience was alright. However the door lock wasn’t working properly. It took a lil bit of time in order to fix the issue but the owner was really concerned and cooperating. Furthermore, during morning there was some noise due to some renovations which was a bit annoying.

We appreciated direct access to the beach. The building is clean and felt safe and secure and the staff is pleasant and helpful. The game room was hit with our family. There is a washer-dryer in the unit and a balcony that faces the interior street. We walked to restaurants and took the bus into Old San Juan, and other points of interest, which at the time was free.

The room was very big and nicely set up for us. Overall it was very comfortable and a great location.
