The pool was an unexpected necessity with the hot weather in Merida, and we spent wonderful afternoons refreshing and reading by the pool. The rooms are wide, bright and with all the comforts that we needed. Included breakfast with fruits, yogurt, cereal and eggs. The hostess is super sweet and friendly and you really feel like you’re visiting your super cool friend at her super cool house in Merida.

Our room was large with a very comfortable bed, lots of drawers to unpack and a nice big shower. The building is a beautifully renovated older building with a pool at the back. Breakfast every morning was delicious. We were within walking distance of the main square, 60th which had lots of shops, many restaurants and Paseo de Montejo. A great location just off the beaten track. Note, the doorbell is high on the left side of the door frame.

The house doesn’t look big from outside but upon entering there’s a lot of space and I especially love the design because it’s very Mexican, also everything is in order. Ananda and Jose were very accommodating as well and I love that they have cute dogs in the house! My room could accommodate 3 people for a very affordable price. Would definitely stay here again when I’m in Mérida.

We had a great one-week stay at Casa Akbal. The property, including the pool, is kept immaculately clean, the breakfasts are delicious, and the owners are welcoming and helpful. After a day’s sightseeing, we especially enjoyed the cool and quiet garden area. The location is perfect—away from the hectic tourist spots, but within an easy walk or short bus ride to everything Centro Histórico has to offer. Having to ring to be let in was not a problem—it was actually nice to be greeted when we came “home”. And it meant we knew that our belongings were always secure.
