A beautifully appointed, intimate lodge within Amakhala. Friendly, helpful staff and excellent rangers. The rooms are beautiful and we had animals at the watering hole outside our room most nights. The food was plentiful and delicious.

We spent three amazing nights at The Bush Lodge for our honeymoon, and it was unforgettable. The staff, especially Athi and Gunther, were incredibly helpful and attentive. They even baked a cake for my 30th birthday and provided a bottle of wine to celebrate our honeymoon.
The safari was the highlight of our stay, with our guide Bret offering amazing insights as we saw lions, cheetahs, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, and more. The lodge itself was beautiful, surrounded by the beautiful nature and we loved the pool overlooking the waterhole where we could spot animals drinking.
Overall, The Bush Lodge made our honeymoon truly special, offering luxury, great service, and unforgettable wildlife experiences. Highly recommend

Everything about this whole experience was phenomenal. We had no expectations but what we saw and did was beyond our comprehension. We are very grateful to have the opportunity that Quartermaine’s provides.
We got 4 game drives, unexpectedly 3 of these was just us with the guides Liam and David as the other 4 guests were out on walking trail. These guides are extremely knowledgeable, great people and sense of humour. Went out of their way to make it all memorable.
Our game drives were fantastic, with 2 very close encounters with the Elephant Herd and later Lion immediately beside or around us. Saw all the other animals at close range too. The animals and scenery were unforgettable, we appreciated stopping at the middens of early human camps. Full explanations of all the animals and plants
When we had a bit of rain and wind, we got rain ponchos, blankets, even hot water bottles.
The camp itself was very 1920s authentic with twists of luxury. The Hot tubs under South Afrikan skies - sensational. Loved all the food cooked on the fires, the home made bread & food, delicious. Hot and cold drinks and snacks are available at all times, even on drives with amazing views.
The Lions roaring at night and the Elephant outside our tent at night added extra thrill, always felt safe though.
We don’t have the words to describe the experience or to say thank you enough. I understand now why people keep returning - we also hope too. Not enough room for all the great photos. THANK YOU 🙏 from 2 very grateful New Zealanders x
Located in the heart of the Amakhala Game Reserve, Woodbury Tented Camp offers an authentic outdoor experience in safaritents. The camp overlooks the ancient floodplain of the Bushmans River.

The tent is great and very comfortable with air conditioning as well as electric blankets.
Our ranger was very knowledgable and taught us lots of interesting facts. We were only there for 2 game drives but got to see cheetahs, rhinos, elephants, buffalo, zebra, plenty of different antelope species etc.
Both the outdoor dining area and pool have the beautiful backdrop of the reserve itself - while we didn’t see any animals wander over while we were chilling there, we know other guests have and it’s still beautiful and tranquil just listening to the birds and insects.
The food is all tasty and staff are all very welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed the open bar, sunset drinks, and post game drive hot chocolate and amarula by the fire pit.
It was an excellent stay and great value for money!
For travellers who love being in nature with an added sense of luxury. Also called glamping, tented camps provide full or limited services, while surrounded by the wilderness. Typically in permanent or semi-permanent camps, these private tents/yurts are a great way to rough it while staying glamorous.
This must be THE BEST safari lodge and wildlife experience in southern SA!
The location, the staff, the guides, the food, the overall experience was absolutely superb.
An added bonus was the open bar. A very nice touch indeed.
We were lucky enough to meet the owners, and we can see why this place is as nice as it was :-)
Shared accommodation lovely.
2 pools, meals all together as a group.
Standard of food great
Jesse - Safari guide was excellent, very informative and great with the kids (9yrs & 14yrs)
Tents roomy and beds and room tidied and vents in tent changed twice daily.
No negative aspects at all. Great tents (maybe needed to be updated shortly) but nothing serious. Service is next level. Game drives were superb and very informative. Stay here for a perfect safari
We had a fantastic stay at Woodbury Tented Camp in the Amakhala Game Reserve. The tents were spacious and had everything you need. The staff were friendly and respectful, as were the Rangers. Our ranger, JP, was good fun and very knowledgeable. He paid attention to what everyone hoped to see and fulfilled their requests if possible without hindering or distressing the wildlife. I loved the fact that we were never rushed and given the time to observe and take photos.
Everything was great, loved the safari experience here. Sleeping in the tents was so close to nature, the main areas are beautiful and the staff is super friendly. You really feel taken care of.
One of many lodges in a vast safari reserve - and I mean vast. Safari drives were over three hours and we saw the big five and many many other wildlife.
The all inclusive nature of the lodge was exemplary - lovely meals (although little choice) and uniquely we were offered bottles of wine to take to our rooms.
What a great place. We stayed in lovely, luxurious tents. The whole experience was amazing. Great safari, great staff, very nice small resort, great food. All in all a time to never forget.
The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was wonderful and the safari drives were fantastic both in terms of sights and wildlife seen and the knowledge of our ranger. The food was of great quality and variety. All in all a truly brilliant stay
Absolutely everything! We had an amazing time at the Woodburn tented camp. The tents were clean, equipped with everything we needed, the food was great. Special thanks to our ranger lenny! The safaris were great fun and we were able to see the big 5!
