Developed in Japan, these cheap “pod” hotels are a novelty for any traveler. With rows of small single bed enclosed capsules, accommodations are basic and intended to be overnight. There's separate storage for luggage and gender-separate communal bathrooms. Some capsule hotels also have a sentō – a Japanese bath house, usually for male guests only.

The cheapest is the double decker bed and the next is upper and lower bunk bed where you can have your own privacy with a curtain. The most expensive is a single bedroom all by yourself, but this is very cramped and felt so closeted, like staying in a secret access refuge room.
