Perfect location, easy walk to many sights in Oban. Breakfast was phenomenal, check-in/out process was very easy. We arrived before the room was ready and were able to drop off bags and have a walk around without any hassles. The kids appreciated the smart TV.

The road in is not for the faint of heart - it is 10 miles of single track for the most part, up and down, twists and turns. But it is totally worth it. Taychreggan is gorgeous, in the most gorgeous location ever. It is super pet friendly. It is location directly on the loch an surrounded by hills and mountains. I wanted to stay there forever. The food, in their AA rosette-awarded restaurant, is superb. They have a separate bar with fireplace and several lounges, all with stunning views. The location is quiet and serene. The staff is great, and kudos to Ivan, who assisted us with our auto's flat tire and with the rental car staff; he told them off, saying it was totally their fault as the tires were bald and should never have been rented like that!
Overlooking Loch Feochan with panoramic views of rugged mountains and tranquil islands, Knipoch House Hotel is just a short drive from Oban, the seafood capital of Scotland and a gateway to the Isles....

Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.
As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

A couple of short walks nearby to castle and small picturesque beach. The bathroom in the petite double was good but might be awkward for larger person.Excellent seafood at EE usk and several other places. Mussels were very good.

Oban is a lovely town full of friendly people.
Oban is a lovely town full of friendly people. It is the best location to explore the outer Hebrides. Plenty of comfortable hotels and great restaurants. And of course cozy pubs! It seems that everywhere you go there is a spectacular view of the port. We were there in March 2025 which is still quiet but I am told it is crazy busy in the summer months so book ahead. The Caledonian McBrayne ferry service was top notch. If you are taking your car on the ferry, book well in advance. It is a stunning part of Scotland and indeed the world. The day trip to the Isle of Mull was a stand out. There is a bus which meets the ferry and takes you up to Tobermory - a joyful, picturesque little town with great restaurants and a couple of pubs. I highly recommend a small tucked away restaurant called Bistro on the Brae with fresh off the boat seafood and a daily blackboard menu. The best scallops I’ve ever eaten.

Oban has a lot to offer between local history, distillery, castles, walks and local shops & brilliant restaurants. It’s also ideally located for island hopping - connecting you to key ferry routes, it’s all straight forward and stress free to arrange. Although I would note we travelled to Oban/Isle of Mull off season so were not impacted as much by traffic etc which can be part and part of these things. Mull is a must visit, Calgary Bay was beautiful.

A leading hotel and spa in the tourist hot spot of Oban during peak season the Alexandra comes with a cost premium. Nonetheless my wife and I felt it was overpriced compared to other hotels we stayed in during this holiday. We were fully aware of the cost before arrival but were hoping for that little bit extra. That said, it was hard to find significant negatives with this hotel or staff. The dining/breakfast room was excellent with fine view over the harbour, the Hotel location was also good.
The rooms were extremely clean (good sign when dog doesn't endlessly sniff the carpet!) Great sea view. Staff incredibly helpful, comfortable bed, food excellent - proper Scottish fare. Extremely pet friendly hotel for a brilliant price. Stayed in the winter and room was lovely and warm. Closer to Oban centre than appears on google maps. I will return.
Everything! Hotel and staff both amazing! Staff couldn’t have been any nicer or accommodating. Location was also perfect for walks in/out of Oban town centre.
Absolutely perfect location for anyone visiting Oban. Staff were amazing & couldn’t do enough to help. Hotel is right on the waterfront with amazing views.
