A Victorian Hotel built between 1865 and 1901, the Columba Hotel overlooks the town of Oban and Oban Bay. It has a 24-hour front desk, a traditional restaurant and 2 bars.

Couldn't ask for a better location. Right at the North Pier, the departure point for my cruise. Great Front Desk staff.

Perfect location, easy walk to many sights in Oban. Breakfast was phenomenal, check-in/out process was very easy. We arrived before the room was ready and were able to drop off bags and have a walk around without any hassles. The kids appreciated the smart TV.

In a tranquil setting on the banks Loch Awe, Taychreggan, Signature Collection by Eight Continents offers elegant accommodations and high-quality dining.

The road in is not for the faint of heart - it is 10 miles of single track for the most part, up and down, twists and turns. But it is totally worth it. Taychreggan is gorgeous, in the most gorgeous location ever. It is super pet friendly. It is location directly on the loch an surrounded by hills and mountains. I wanted to stay there forever. The food, in their AA rosette-awarded restaurant, is superb. They have a separate bar with fireplace and several lounges, all with stunning views. The location is quiet and serene. The staff is great, and kudos to Ivan, who assisted us with our auto's flat tire and with the rental car staff; he told them off, saying it was totally their fault as the tires were bald and should never have been rented like that!

FAQs about hotels in Oban

Gateway to the Inner Hebrides

Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.

The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.

Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.

Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.

As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

We only stayed one night but Oban is a great gateway with a hotel to suit all travellers. We had the best fish and chips at Oban F&C, a friendly welcome, and Enjoyed a level walk around the town. It’s a large port with plenty of facilities. We look forward to returning one day to explore it further

Oban is a smashing town to have a few days break in, and if you wish to stay longer, then you can access the Cal-mac ferry to take you island hopping. It's full of decent shops, bars and restaurants

great position on promenade ,near enough to town but out of hub hub. A couple of short walks nearby to castle and small picturesque beach. The bathroom in the petite double was good but might be awkward for larger person.Excellent seafood at EE usk and several other places. Mussels were very good.

Oban is a lovely town full of friendly people.

Oban is a lovely town full of friendly people. It is the best location to explore the outer Hebrides. Plenty of comfortable hotels and great restaurants. And of course cozy pubs! It seems that everywhere you go there is a spectacular view of the port. We were there in March 2025 which is still quiet but I am told it is crazy busy in the summer months so book ahead. The Caledonian McBrayne ferry service was top notch. If you are taking your car on the ferry, book well in advance. It is a stunning part of Scotland and indeed the world. The day trip to the Isle of Mull was a stand out. There is a bus which meets the ferry and takes you up to Tobermory - a joyful, picturesque little town with great restaurants and a couple of pubs. I highly recommend a small tucked away restaurant called Bistro on the Brae with fresh off the boat seafood and a daily blackboard menu. The best scallops I’ve ever eaten.

Good location and while not on the sea front, only one street back and within walking distance of everything in the centre of Oban. Good comfortable bar and they have an arrangement with a fabulous restaurant called 'Coast' where we ate and were able to inform us when our table was ready. Decor in the room was nice and bed was comfortable. Fabulous rain shower and free parking at the rear of the hotel.

Stayed overnight in a very comfortable and quiet room, and left at 5.30am for work the following day. Leaving the key by the main door and exiting was not a problem at all. Staff the previous night very friendly. Bar area comfortable. A lovely boutique hotel in central Oban, and only 5 minutes walk to the Calmac ferry terminal.
