An an easy 10 minutę walk from the station, don't let the building's 1960's exterior deceive you, the dinner was superb, way beyond expectations, served in your room, fresh, local ingredients, grilled fish and grilled Hida beef, sautéed local mushrooms with a 'mentaiko' sauce, fresh sashimi, another white fish sautéed in a French butter/'wa-fu' sauce, plus more imaginative concoctions in the kitchen that were excellent with two local sakes we ordered, the wonderfully dry 'Horai' and an exceptionally creamy 'nigorizake'. We savored our meal slowly over two hours and finished it with green tea and a walk to the onsen bath. Did I mention the new tatami mats in the room? What's not to like? You can pay for more luxury, but this was excellent value for money. Note that you will be sitting on the tatami while you eat, which may bother some people.
The breakfast was also delicious, Japanese style, grilled local anago river fish, yudofu simmered in onsen water, Yama-imo and raw egg, dashimaki tamago, local sautéed mushrooms, tsukemono, miso soup, rice...mmmm.

Quiet and peaceful location. The spa pools were lovely. The courtesy shuttle bus to Hida Hagiwara station was appreciated, as we were travelling without a car.
It would be nice to have an alternative the kaiseki dinner each evening, as the food is excellent, but so much food!

Gero has so much to share, with food, including Hida beef, yes get familiar with it. It's top level Wagyu beef and is from Hida the region that Gero is situated. The city is easy to get around in the snow (in Winter) and in the rain (in Spring), with places that are easy to walk or ride share to. Gero to most is a journey to get to with taking the trains, but it's well worth the journey, having seen cherry blossoms in the ever greens AND the snow falling like in a "snow globe", encrusting the tress, during the train ride. We are fortunate to have experienced Gero twice and now looking for a third stay, in Autumn for the changing of the leaves!

Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu.
Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu. There is a much slower pace here, incredibly friendly people. and beautiful nature. There's many nooks and crannies where you'll find interesting things, and the Gassho-mura open-air museum village is a must-see area.

I did a one day trip, I went there just because of the naturals onsen, and it was the best decision, I arrived about 10:00 at leave at the same time of the next day. Honestly I don't think is a trip for more than 3 days.
Gero is a beautiful city, it has a few museums that can be seen in one period of the day. As the city is small, it doesn't need car or bus to go around if no one has fiscal disabilities.
This was my second time at Japan, and I regret not going to Gero the first time as well.

Room was average.
Dinner and breakfast were Kaiseki style, served in our room by a male Japanese speaking staff who took the trouble to Google translate all the different dishes to English. He was very polite.
Driver who drove us to the train station on the day of check out was extremely accommodating n helpful.
The ladies' public onsen .. The Rose Bath was quite nice but with very few flowers. Different from the photo in the hotel website with lots of flowers.
1) dinner and breakfast were served in a private room with greenery view
2) room is very spacious with a small dressing room and balcony
3) every staff is very nice and attractive
4) they provide free taxi ride from /to the train station so you don’t need to worry about the traffic arrangements
5) the out door Onsen is good and I didn’t use their indoor one
6) the hotel very quite and peaceful
7) food of dinner and breakfast are of good quality
Excellent facilities. Had a lovely time here. Located just a short walk from the train station and even offers a shuttle if you would rather be driven over. Check in was straight forward and staff were all so helpful. Stayed in a traditional Japanese room and staff came in in the evening to make up the beds. The highlights are the multiple onsens available on site. Also given traditional yukata to wear throughout the hotel.
We’ve enjoy the atmosphere and hospitality! Onsen and public bath experience was definitely something new! The hotel’s atmosphere, simple restaurant that service meals after 20.00 and a bar with karaoke were also a nice cherry on top. And having beautiful local garments at the room to be able to wear those in the hotel was another lovely surprise
A great little ryokan in beautiful countryside. Very reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They have a private onsen that can be booked for 45 minutes blocks for extra payment. There are, of course, a lot of nearby onsen in Gero as well.
