Surrounded by shops and restaurants in Melbourne CBD, this 5-star hotel offers spacious suites with LCD TVs, balconies, and panoramic views over Yarra River.

There were a number of problems with the room. The sink in the bathroom was very slow to drain. It took two maintenance visits to get it properly fixed. The clothes, washer in the kitchen, continually spat out an error halfway through the drying process. Despite reporting this, it never got fixed properly, so I ended up with wet clothes twice! There was a drawer in the desk that was sticking out about 3 inches and wouldn’t close properly and the lock on the balcony door from the living room didn’t lock properly. I got so sick of making complaints that a couple of these things I either didn’t report until I left, or just didn’t bother reporting at all. Basically, it was a lot of little things and it was disappointing having to deal with them.

An excellent job of honouring the history of the building through the features and interior design in the lobby and the rooms, with a modern influence in line with today's comfort and luxury standards. I was travelling for work and even felt compelled to work in the lobby given how nice the experience was. I stayed in another "4.5 star" hotel the night before and it didn't get close to the Savoy on any level (including price) - It really makes me wonder how the star rating system works as the Savoy is leagues ahead.

The best ‘budget’ hotel we have stayed in. It had everything - well designed, clean , super modern , comfortable with attention to all the little details like an extra long bedside table, plugs etc, Good enough breakfast included in the price, and half price drinks at happy hour. Stunning city views from our 2 windows. Large flat screen tv. Loved the bathroom (nice dispensers of soap, shampoo AND conditioner! Good aircon. Staff were lovely. Location superb for our sight seeing trip. well pleased with our choice!!

Alto is such a friendly little boutique hotel in the city. It has authentic designer pieces, the friendliest staff who make you feel like you're staying at a friend's house and sparkling water on tap (ask for a bottle to fill up to take to your room). It's not perfect (the best homes aren't), but it's a lovely bolthole in an awesome section of the city. Plus, the facade is so gorgeous, and the breakfast is great (chef in the mornings).
