Loved the breakfast choice, and was amazing. The overnight oats especially.
We felt very relaxed which part of it was down to the privacy the staff gave us

Pleasant, clean, esthetically pleasing, cosy. Excellent shower and comfy mattress (two rarities in UK). My compliments! Also: gluten free breakfast menu :-)

It was clean, comfortable and in a superb location. If you're wanting to look round Windermere, you're in the right place, if you're looking to see a bit of the lake, then it is only a 15/20 minute walk which may be good for some. For us, it was just right, and allowed us to see all of Windermere which was lovely. The hotel was lovely, and you are looked after the moment you arrive. A wonderful find.

Having never visited the Lake District before we had no experience of the best location & best accommodation. Fortunately we chose Sawrey House Hotel in Near Sawrey, mainly because it looked superb, the rooms looked great, it was well priced & wasn’t ‘dog friendly’ (No offence dog lovers).
Hotelier David Bulmer was the perfect host and made us feel very welcome. The hotel is beautiful & the surrounding area is a quiet unspoilt part of the Lake District. It was a perfect location as a basis to explore the various key locations, including Grasmere, Ambleside, Coniston, Derwent Water, Esthwaite Water, Bassenthwaite Lake & Tarn Hows etc, away from the overcrowded Windermere & Bowness.
Even better, the hotel is immediately beside Beatrix Potter’s Hilltop Farm, where she wrote many of her books.
The evidence of her inspiration was all around the Sawrey Hotel, with bunnies, squirrels, pheasants and much more wildlife visiting the garden each day.
Breakfast in the hotel was made to order, and we filled in our selection from the menu in advance each day. The quality & presentation of the food was superb! The hotel doesn’t currently offer lunch or evening meals, but does offer afternoon tea & charcuterie boards. However, there are loads of restaurants nearby (our favourites were Billy’s in Hawkshead on 5 mins drive away) and the Boardwalk Bar & Grill in Windermere, which can be accessed via a 10min ferry trip (with car) from nearby Ferry House to Ferry Nab. (£6.50 per car or free for Blue Badge Holders)
Our favourite spot by the water was at the south end of Esthwaite Water, only 2mins drive (15mins walk) from the hotel.
The hotel is a boutique b&b so it is quirky and doesn’t have all the mod-cons but that adds to its charm.
Overall we enjoyed a fabulous stay & we’re blessed with 4 days of sunshine which I understand is a rarity in the Lake District!!
These hotels offer something a little different in the way of design and usually sit in a trendy, urban part of town. More intimate than your average hotel, they offer high standards with a homely vibe.
Stunning views of Windermere, great location for walking out, pretty central for driving to other locations.
The properties design was funky yet classy. The breakfast and evening meal was of a very high standard. Would 100% recommend this hotel.
The best stay during this trip to Lake District. Very nicely designed, with attention to little details - feels like a very good boutique hotel! Owner was keeping the contact and provided info about taxis as there was difficult to get there because of train strike.
Also it is close to the lake and one of two lively districts of Windermere. Garden is gorgeous and provides nice view from the window.
I'd love to stay there again!
The interior design of this property is stunning throughout. The owners sent a lovely welcome email a few days before we arrived and there was a welcome pack for our arrival.
The interior design in the main hotel areas is beautiful and stylish. Staff professional, kind and always with a smile on their faces. SPA- the pool area too warm for me and my husband but in general very relaxing place- a quiet music would be nice. The terrace cocktail bar very nice place to relax in a good weather - however drinks served with no napkins and after each guest more wet spots on the table- never been wiped off by staff.
stunning views from the balcony, very tasty breakfast, amazing location, if your used to hills a trip down town is nothing, but then why would you go to the lakes if you can’t do hills. lovely design in the bar and sun room and out the front. such a comfy bed.
The location can be a bit difficult to find on google map. But there’s a lovely shortcut to the backyard of the hotel that is easy to walk. The interior design of the house is sophisticated and stylish. I and my bf really like the cozy wooden standard room. We take baths everyday. Really relax us after a long day trip.
