Highly recommend paying for the open air bath, it’s located on the roof terrace with an excellent view, lovely atmosphere and relaxing bath. Very friendly staff. The public bath is really impressive, don't skip it! We also took a bath in the private onsen, very nice. The common areas are really big, beautiful and with lovely views of the river. The balcony doors open right up so that you can hear the flow of the river and feel the cool breeze enter the room. The private hot spring, beautiful common areas (also looking out onto the Itoo River) and friendly staff made my stay all the more better. We loved the communal spaces, so lovely to sit in and catch the winter sun and read whilst waiting for the washing and drying( an absolute saviour with two teenagers). A gorgeous house, so much bigger than expected and perfect as a hostel - two kitchens on different floors, huge, comfy lounge(s), lots of toilets.
