There was a problem with breakfast, I had paid for breakfast fall all 5, (two rooms), but they said one room was not with breakfast even though it stated breakfast for all on the booking sheet, anyway they did honour this. The hotel is not a 4 star, despite what it says. The rooms are quite worn and look well used. The hotel gives a sterile feel. There was no kettle in one of our rooms. The hotel gives a sports centre feel rather than a hotel. The telephone didn’t work in the room. No way to telephone reception. The hotel looks as if it needs a lot spending on it to bring it up to a reasonable standard.

The Hotel da Oliveira is within the historical Guimarães city centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Guimarães Castle, the city’s most iconic landmark is 150 metres away.

The breakfast was delicious and varied. The staff was super helpful as they even made booked us a table at two different restaurants. The lady at the breakfast room even suggested some places to see and checked on us everyday. They even provided umbrellas free of charge to take with us given that it was raining heavily during our stay. There was even complimentary tea at any time during the day. The shower pipe in our room broke and they fixed it immediately.

Great location in Guimaraes close to both the train and bus station. The room was clean and quiet and the member of staff was friendly. Checking in and out was simple and for a short stay I really have no complaints.
