Opening in March 2014, Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei offers accommodations with a modern yet traditional décor. One of our best stay in Japan. Location works for us, minutes of walk to the subway station and bus station depending on your go. Facilities are great, from lobby, onsen, to our room. Really enjoy our stay. Staffs are super helpful, fluent in multi-lingual and super helpful to foreign travellers like us throughout arranging our luggage delivery to the next hotel. I would come back for Mitsui!

Ideally located just a 2-minute walk from lively Nishiki Market and Ponto-cho Street, Matsui Honkan boasts large public baths and chic Japanese-style rooms. We had an amazing stay here. The place was incredibly clean and the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. We truly enjoyed our time there and believe that booking just one night is perfect for anyone visiting Kyoto.

Ryokan Kyoraku is centrally located just a 7-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station's north exit. It's a 3-minute walk from Higashi Hongan-ji temple. Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms. Owner was really friendly. Place was so quiet and peaceful we felt like we was the only ones there. Everything was spotlessly clean, even the shared wash areas. Laundry on site.

Towa Ryokan is a ryokan located just a 10-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station. A welcome drink of green tea will be prepared upon arrival. Absolutely everything was perfect. The staff were super friendly, respectful, and accomodating. The breakfast was outstanding. The futon was more comfortable than some beds I slept in at hotels.

A 7-minute walk from Kyoto Station, the completely non-smoking Ohanabo provides traditional Japanese-style accommodation with “Kaiseki” multi-course in-room dinners, massages and a hot public bath. An authentic ryokan, in a building that's probably well over 100 years old. The rooms have tatami mats and futons and the onsen is beautiful. It's like staying in someone's home! This is not a super-swish modern hotel, so if that's what you want go elsewhere, but if you want a place with real character, staffed by people who treat you as long-lost friends, then this is the place for you. We will certainly return next time we're in Kyoto.
