A Modern Arabian Dream
As you fly into Abu Dhabi International Airport, it’s probably good to know that the vast array of streets with multiple names is best negotiated by landmarks rather than exact addresses. And you won’t be short of landmarks since this fast-growing metropolis is packed with tourist attractions.
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the 6th largest mosque in the world and is already open, nearing completion. Most buildings and public areas are on this grand scale, such as the 123 metre flagpole on Marina Island or the extensive Khalifa Park which, amongst other attractions, has its own train.
Along the aquamarine waters of the Persian Gulf lies the remarkable waterfront of Corniche, which offers a walkway along its entire 6 km. From here the modern Arabian skyline can be taken in and by night the scene is illuminated, creating an even more glorious spectacle.
However, shopping is really where it’s at in Abu Dhabi. Malls such as the Marina, Abu Dhabi and Al Wahda Malls provide a multitude of goods, endless boutique options and plentiful food halls. We really enjoyed visiting the Corniche and the Louvre Abu Dhabi — both were beautiful and memorable spots. The views along the coast were especially peaceful. We had a few lovely meals at the hotel and also tried some local spots nearby. One of our favorites was a cozy café that served delicious Middle Eastern dishes. Yes, it was quite easy to get around. Taxis and ride apps are very reliable, and most places are well connected. The city felt safe and welcoming. Solo travellers can enjoy exploring the cultural landmarks like the Grand Mosque, relaxing at the beach, or spending time at museums and galleries. We had a bad experience in the immigration. A staff wasn't courteous he was shouting. Another women staff talking over the phone and interacting with us. Abudhabi invited us as a tourist destination so we paid for visa and accepted by the country but the immigration staff was shouting putting questions as threatening asking which country, which country?? While I found Dubai a bit too over commercialised Abu Dhabi seemed like 4 to 5 years behind but keeping up fast. The tradition of the country was in Abu Dhabi more tangible than in Dubai. On the other hand Dubai has more to offer in terms of sightseeing. If you want to experience a more uncut gem to lay back, enjoy beaches and soak up the fusion of modernity and tradition than I can highly recommend Abu Dhabi. Depending on your travel itinerary you could see Abu Dhabi in 2 days. 3 Days make it convenient and are perfect.
