The old part was beautiful and well kept. The separate block that I was in was OK clean and tidy. The room had a balcony and a lounge dining area with a kitchen and a good bathroom so perfectly adequate.

A paradise in the Austrian state of Salzburg, Zell am See is located along the shores of the Zell Lake and surrounded by mountains like the 2000-metre high Schmittenhöhe. It is an important ski centre in the winter and a hiking and mountain-biking paradise during summer.
The area has been occupied since Roman times, but the village was founded around the year 740 by the order of Bishop Johannes I of Salzburg. The picturesque Old Town includes typical Alpine style buildings, as well as the oldest building of the region, St. Hippolyte's Church. The Austrian area of Zell am See offers a wide range of hotels, B&B’s, apartments, and guest houses.
The leisure centre has a covered pool, a sauna and steam bath, and special facilities for kids. Zell am See is a gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park, the biggest of the Alps and Austria’s oldest.
The nearby town of Kaprun is home to the 12th-century Kaprun Castle and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Salzburg Airport is 100 km away, while Sixt Innsbruck Airport is 150 km away. Whether you’re searching for hotels in Zell am See with ski facilities, or a cosy ‘gasthaus’ with a garage for your bike, check out the variety available on Booking.com!

Zell is just a 1.5 to 2 hour journey from Salzburg and the train station is conveniently located in the town centre. It's always worth asking at the train station for the ticket that allows you to travel anywhere by train and bus on a Saturday for only £8 per person. Stock up at the Spar at Salzburg station if you're arriving after supermarket closing hours, although the Spar near the Cityxpress stays open until 7pm most days. Due to the height of the mountains the skiing is excellent and when we weren't skiing we made good use of our ski lift pass to visit the Kitzsteinhorn and the walking trail at the top of the Schmittenhohe.

Picturesque town with plenty of bars, cafes and good quality restaurants.
Easy transfer by car from Salzburg but train station also right in town centre. Can ski right into town but also excellent local bus to Kaprun.
The non skier enjoyed walking around the lake and venturing up to the top of Salzburg (3029m) via cable cars. There is a viewing platform and exhibition

Pleasant city, not too impressive from a tourist perspective. The lake adds to a calmness to the city. Not so impressive traditional houses like those at Salzburg or Kitzbuhel. Recommended however for Skiing, especially if someone is travelling with car and can combine with skiing also at Kaprun and Saalbach areas ( buses are also available betwen those areas ). All these three ski resorts are a group of resorts that can be combined with the same ski ticket.

Zell am See is an amazing place for a ski trip in the winter. There are 3 ski resorts in the 10 minutes drive radius (Kaprun, Schmitten and Salbach). All of them have amazing slopes, many lifts and no wainting lines. The city of Zell am See is extremely beautiful with many amazing restaurants, apreski bars and a very calm and charming city center.

We stayed two days in Zell am See and we were by motorcycle.
We stayed two days in Zell am See and we were by motorcycle. Just the perfect amount of time to slowly explore the old town, the lake and the surroundings. We went to the top of Salzburg by the Gletserjest and it was such an amazing experience. Just a 20min drive away from Zell Am see in Kaprun. We also went to Schmittenhöhe which you can reach by doing a hike or just by taking a jet. The view is amazing!

We liked the welcome, the hosts are charming, schnapps on arrival is a winner, (maybe we were special:))))
the location, and the honesty bar. We like hotels where the locals choose to stay. This is a family run hotel and after staying in a 4 star hotel in Vienna and a 3 star in Salzburg in the same week, we vote the Pension Hubertus as our favourite base. For English travellers it’s the number 10 bus from Salzburg airport to Zell am see and a 1.5hr train ride, easy.
Everything was second-to-none!
I was pleased to be back to St Georg for the 4th time. The staff is as welcome as always, they are ready to help and give tips 24/7.
I especially like the traditional Austrian style of the hotel - super cozy, authentic and very tranquil. Spa was well upgraded, I do recommend popping in there after an intense day of hiking/skiing.
Very good location 3 km out of crowded Zell am See centre, which is easy reachable by bus nr. 70 (ski-bus), which is free of charge and runs every 30 minutes from early morning till late evening. Stop is located just in front of the apartments. Ski-bus goes directly to CityXpress ski lift just in 10 min.
It is a nice and cozy hotel. Very comfortable if you have a car, it is very near from Kaprun and Zell am See ski lifts. The bus stop is also in the front of the hotel. Nice dinners, every night was different. There’s very modern sauna, which was not visited by the other guests, so we had a nice privacy.
Loved location, have been to Zell am See 7 years ago and stayed nearby at Hotel Tirolerhof. My sister and I enjoyed the large size apartment with the luxury of of a separate bedroom and bathroom each at either end of the apartment.
