Súper clean, comfortable, excellent staff super accommodating. Sometimes accommodation on main roads in small towns can be scary. But here was an amazing resting spot. They even offer local wine, which is pretty good to my surprise.

It was beautifully decorated, the bed was comfy. The view of the horses was great off our deck and the hosts were very friendly. The breakfast basket was more then adequate.

Childers is one of those country towns in Queensland that...
Childers is one of those country towns in Queensland that grew on adjacent sides of the Bruce Highway and is located in the Bundaberg Region. It is in a sugar cane growing area and has a rich history in agriculture. At the harvesting times of year it is possible to see small scale cane trains coming through the town precinct. There is a flair for street art in the main business corridor and the buildings are mainly of historic interest - well worth getting the camera out. If you don't mind heavy transport rumbling by at all hours of the days there are a limited number of motels in the town to stay overnight. Generally the traffic noise is low enough to allow for a good nights rest. There are a couple of coastal areas to visit when staying here, as well as the city of Bundaberg, all within less than an hours drive from Childers. When heading west from Childers you can link the Bruce highway with the Burnett Highway at Ban Ban Springs via the Isis Highway, at a distance of around 80Km. Ban Ban Springs has a service station and not much else but there is a road side rest area there. On the way west the Isis Highway also goes through the small to medium size town of Biggenden and a few other villages and also gives access on a side road to the Paradise Dam, on the Burnett River.

Really friendly staff and cleaner, great pool, good location, walk through alleyway and you are on the Main Street, fabulous coffee shop across the road
Only negative was the lack of carparking, we were there for 4 nights and 2 nights we had to park on the road

I was only here overnight on this occasion but on previous visits have spent a bit of time walking the town with camera in hand. It has a historical flair and lots of examples of street art in the main street. Plenty of places to dine in or out. One disadvantage is that the main highway forms the main street and heavy transports use this corridor to drive north or south but this is similar to many established towns located on highways that have not be serviced by a highway by-pass.

Good stopping point between Central Qld & Brisbane.
Good stopping point between Central Qld & Brisbane. Choice of pubs serving dinner. Interesting shops in main street. Supermarket available in small modern shopping centre. A lot of trucks passing through so maybe choose a motel off the main drag if you can.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Childers....
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Childers....I stayed overnight at the outset of my holiday and again on my return. I ate at the Grand Central Hotel(hope I got the name right) and while it was very busy the staff were friendly and efficient and the food and entertainment was great. Though my stay was brief I enjoyed exploring the town centre and the sunrises and sunsets were sublime. Would visit Childers again.

Great country town and perfect place for an overnight stay...
Great country town and perfect place for an overnight stay to break the drive. Great eating choices, in fact had the best lamb roast, gravy and vegetables at the Federal Hotel...had 10 vegetables!....2 roast potatoes, 2 pieces of roast pumpkin, slices of zucchini and sweet potato, peas and beans, broccoli and cauliflower, carrot pieces and small piece of corn. On way back through stopped for lunch at Insane Coffee House...the toasted ham sandwich on their sourdough bread was "insane", very different with lots of flavours....and great coffee.
Great place to walk around, albeit do have to be aware of traffic travelling through town. Clean toilet amenities in main street.
