We didn't use the restaurants at the Royal Mail Hotel this time, choosing instead to try the smaller places and they did not disappoint. We also ate at nearby towns. Facilities are still good, age starting to show in the shower tile and screen mount, the plug in the bathroom sink was broken, needing to dug out. Dunkeld maintains its image as the archetypical small country village, with a road running through it, but when examined its growth in buildings and facilities can be seen. Traffic is quite light and the town and the site share a serenity not often found. It is said that the Royal Mail Hotel has the best wine cellar in Victoria. Certainly the restaurants offer fine dining. We chose the Studios this time for simplicity. The main units across the road are great, but the studios are more relaxed. Access and departure are by Key safe and email. Can't go wrong.

The cabin was fantastic, very clean and comfortable. Set amongst lovely, well maintained gardens, it was a joy to stay here. Jackie was very welcoming and friendly. We’ll definitely come again.

Beautifully presented. Spotlessly clean. Coffee machine & pods supplied. Fresh roses on table looked and smelt wonderful
Dunkeld is absolutely stunning. The Piccaninny trail had great views of Mt Sturgeon and Mt Abrupt as well as the beautiful valley. Parker street project was a great place to wine and dine. The Dunkeld Old Bakery had great coffee and an excellent carrot cake. Izzy’s cafe also had great fish and chips and tasty supplies for a night in. Would highly recommend Dunkeld as a weekend away.

Dunkeld is full of wild life - watch out for the wallabies and kangaroos and emus, they are everywhere, especially on the roads. Visit for the walks and trails and the incredibly peace of Grampians with out the business of Halls Gap.

This lovely property was very large and provided all facilities. Very suitable for self-catering. The setting is stunning - teemed with birds and other classic Australin wildlife. We spent most of our time just soaking up the location from the patio. A car is necessary for access as the property is a little out of the village. Car also required to access the walks and sights within the nearby National Park. Don't arrive late as we did - by 7.30pm all shops and eateries in Dunkeld were closed and we had to drive to the neighbouring town of Hamilton to find food.

A terrific little town which has been revitalised so well - with lovely amenities (except fresh fruit and vegetables), but good coffee ( the caravans are great for coffee and pizza). Easy to walk around and it has easy access to walks further out of town. The pub of course is excellent as are the restaurants!

We wanted to do several southern Grampian walks. For this Dunkeld is the perfect base.
The town is tiny so plan your evening meals carefully. At the time of our visit the options were basic and very limited.

Dunkeld is beautiful, situated right under Mt Sturgeon and on the main Melbourne road a short distance from Hamilton. Just enough facilities for all you need without the crowds. The town is peaceful, historic and well equipped. Tea at the Royal Mail Hotel was fantastic too!

Small well appointed room with lovely view of Mt Sturgeon. Simple breakfast with quality produce supplied in room.
Kitchen Garden tour was outstanding at 10am on the Saturday morning a short walk from the hotel.
Bar was very comfortable for a relaxing drink and Parker St for dinner was a stand out and shouldn’t be missed! Will be trying their other restaurant on the next visit.
The Studio didn't work out with a problem between booking.com systems and the provider. However the Royal Mail Hotel staff were absolutely fantastic. They made sure that everything was sorted to exceed our expectations regarding the accommodation, restaurant, meals and service, They really look after all of their guests.
Great cosy cottage. We booked out both rooms with friends as stop over on our way to Coonawarra and to go to the Royal Mail Hotel. It's an easy walk to the Royal Mail and adjoined to the Dunkeld Old Bakery, which was great for breakfast. It can be a little noisy as the bakery prepares to open.
Something a bit different. A lovely 2 bedroomed house with large lounge , large kitchen and shower room, all very clean and well presented. Enjoy the tranquil location and listen to the birds. Easy walk via the caravan park to Dunkeld . The “Sturgeon” is excellent for food and/or drinks..
We loved our stay at the cottage. It was perfect for our dinner visit to the Royal Mail Hotel. It's super cosy with the fire place! Beds comfy and the place is just set up as a great holiday house.
