PS Federal Retreat Paddle Steamer Goolwa offers accommodations in Goolwa, 1.3 miles from Goolwa Beach and 3.2 miles from Coorong Quays Hindmarsh Island.

It was so quiet, neat and tidy and the bedding was comfortable. Kitchen was very clean and cupboards extremely neat. Breakfast provided was good, although could have been a bit more generous with eggs provided. Beds were comfortable and the bedding etc was clean. Pillows were great too! It was fabulous to be made aware of the electricity restrictions prior to arrival. Instructions re use of heating and oven were clear. Beth was great at responding to messages and queries before our stay also. How beautiful to wake up to bird life. Gorgeous environment.

Hands down the best resourced and comfortable apartment I've stayed in for a long time. Great space, well stocked kitchen for cooking in, heaps and heaps of plates, cups and cooking items to use. Lovely area, outdoor area and bathroom. Very clean.

The town of Goolwa has a wonderful heritage ambience as well as a maritime seaside feel as it is close to the Murray River, beach and the Coorong national park. A good base to explore other areas. Plenty of cafes and eateries and these are generally good value. The town also has some large supermarkets for self catering. Town is surprisingly busy in mid winter exuding a positive buzz.

Our accommodation had notes plastered to every surface with instructions. It was off-putting and could be better managed by the use of a compendium - or a single welcome sheet with bullet point notes - highlighted if necessary. Would achieve the same end without causing offence. The shower took ages to warm up - wasting heaps of water - the bed was uncomfortable - but the owners had decorated the unit beautifully. The tariff was justified - but the vibe was not comfortable and relaxing.

Goolwa has a lot of lovely old buildings in addition to the more modern ones. We attended a market near the waterfront which was great to attend. There were lots of good crafts on offer. We went onto Hindmarsh Island which gave a good view of the Murray river mouth. We also went to the barrage. It is accessible until 4.00. You can walk out accross the barrage and watch Pelicans and other birds feed off the fish that came through the barrage. There was also a few seals basking in the sun at the barrage lock. Most enjoyable.

Goolwa is a lovely town with many old buildings dating back to the 1850’s and very well preserved. The Spirit of the Coorong boat trip is excellent. Great value and an amazing journey, captain and crew very knowledgeable. Interesting to find out how the Murray mouth is managed and the beautiful wildlife and vegetation that are protected. An insight into native Australian history including a welcome to country.

Great little town with beautiful little historic stone cottages. Nice and quiet with some nice little shops and some great eateries including Mother Duck which we always visit and a Thai restaurant. Love the native birds where we stayed as well. Would have gone to the beach if we had more time. Close to other great little towns like Port Elliot and Middleton.

Only a minute by car to Main Street .

Only a minute by car to Main Street . Takeaway foods and 2 pubs . Could walk if fit. Lots to see in local wharf area . Nearby drive to shopping mall . Stroll the little shops as you walk to wharf . Fish and chips excellent at nearest shop on the main road . Few nice shops for tourists to browse . An olde worlde feel to the town. It’s close to Victor Harbour for serious sightseeing /tourism . Visit Granite Island and see the draught horse drawn carriage . Plenty of street parking then walk to lunch , plenty of choices .
