Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.
First class food and service in restaurants and cafes...
First class food and service in restaurants and cafes everywhere. Quite remarkable. Prices are generally cheaper than the mainland. The pier, views of mountains and the Derwent river amazing. Loads of things to do for everyone. Ubers and taxis everywhere and $12 will get you about anywhere. So much art, culture, wine, activities in a small city but just walking around is the best part. Finding random bars and cafes, talking to locals. Some of the best distilleries, beer and wines in the world.

Great for sea food and local Tasmanian wines with interesting historical places of interest like Battery Point. We visited Mount Wellington, Cascade Brewery and the famous Mona art gallery, as well as doing a walking tour of the city.

We loved the city of Hobart.
We loved the city of Hobart. The architecture of many of the buildings fascinated us and the history that we learned about was of great interest. We greatly enjoyed the waterfront and the many sculptures that have been placed there, Even though it is the Capitol City of Tasmania it still like a big country town found in other states. We enjoyed our stay in Hobart and could have used extra days to see everything we would liked to.

We loved Hobart as soon as we arrived.
We loved Hobart as soon as we arrived. Unfortunately we were too late for the markets as they were packing up when we drove past. We did, however, get to see all the Ford cars in town for the weekend as they drove around the city. Didn't have time to go into the City Centre but experienced a few wonderful hours at the Salamanca precinct during the week. Overall, couldn't fault anything in Hobart or surrounding areas. Service and hospitality was amazing everywhere we went. The food on offer was amazing. Accommodation so much better level than we encountered in other Tassie or Victorian establishments. Visited an old friend who lived in Hobart and was surprised by the size of the city.

Very walkable.
Very walkable. Museums, botanical gardens, galleries, eateries , and history right on your doorstep. MONA was very over-rated. Pretentious rubbish. Not elderly-friendly at all as you are FORCED to download the app to find out anything about the artworks. But saw my first wild platypus within 3km of Hobart CBD. Can't ask for more than that.

The room was large and comfy with a view over Princes Park. The bathroom was large including a spa bath and separate shower. All amenities were well placed and functional for a self contained apartment. I really enjoyed the fact that each apartment had it's own split system air con and and opening sliding door for fresh air. The location was excellent being within walking distance to the CBD, Salamanca Markets, Battery Point wharfs and beyond. The staff were lovely and always ready to assist or recommend places to go.
My studio apartment was very well appointed - the kitchenette had everything I needed to prepare meals and the washing machine and dryer in the room were super convenient for a week-long stay. The room was very spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. Location is also convenient - a short walk to the waterfront and into the CBD, with the added convenience of an airport bus stop at the front door. Also plenty of cafes and restaurants, etc in easy walking distance.
The room was new, clean, comfortable, and it had everything you need in a self contained apartment (cooking utensils etc.). The bed was super comfortable, on site parking was affordable and great (undercover and protected). Location perfect for North Hobart and all it has to offer.
The hotel is pretty and holds a lot of history. It’s clean and peaceful and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It’s a short walk to the waterfront but far enough from the nightlife to be a peaceful and comfortable stay in Hobart. Great value for money.
The hotel is close to the CBD, with an easy walk to many restaurants and workplaces. Clean, comfortable and very friendly. Even in the low cost rooms, you still have some view for Hobart and surroundings.
