Belem is a port town. Use Uber or taxi at night. Try going to the surrounding island. Very nice. No ferry Sunday to Marajo from Belem as far as I could see. Could be private ones. Not sure. Need to book one week in advance to Marajo online. Can buy tickets when your in Belem

Belem is a once wealthy city that has fallen into decline.
Belem is a once wealthy city that has fallen into decline. Like many Brazilian cities, it has a serious crime problem, but unlike other Brazilian cities, it doesn't have the living behind walls feel that other cities have and has pretty good walkability, but that ever present feeling of crime is there so use common sense and don't be afraid to ask about safety. The residents are familiar with their city and will be honest as to where and when you can walk and where you should take Ubers instead. Architecture, historic and modern, is spectacular but often covered in graffiti and mildew with the latter the inevitable result of a city that was carved out of the Amazon Rain Forest. The cultural attractions like churches, museums, and gardens are incredible as are the markets. Belem restaurants have the best food I've eaten in Brazil and that alone is reason enough to visit. I was only there a few days, but I will go back. Beware, the heat and humidity in the day is brutal and expect torrential rains at any time, but at night, it's much more comfortable to be outside. Brazilians are some of most hospitable, laid back, and beautiful people on earth. Come here and enjoy the culture, hospitality, and beauty. You won't be disappointed.

We visited a very interesting park, the Mangal das Garças. Terrific place, big enough to spend the whole day there. A huge and very interesting zoobotanical garden, just in the city.
Another interesting place to go is de Estação das Docas, where you can enjoy delicious regional food dishes, ice-cream made of regional fruits of the Amazon rainforest, live music at a stage in the air that moves from one point to the other of the falicity.

We did a city tour through GetYourGuide which was really worth it as you went around the ver o peso market, and around the city - good to get your bearings. The Estacao das Docas was a great place to hang out, especially at the microbrewery. The house of the eleven pillars was a great place to go for a sunset drink and meal (but the restaurant was the same as the hotel, Atrium Quinta De Pedras).
All in all Belem surprised me with its many sights, bars and restaurants. Glad we went and wished we had stayed longer.

The city has a vast culture, great cuisine, with great cultural options such as some churches, squares. But what really impresses is the combú island with great restaurants and the possibility of being in contact with a beautiful Amazon.

Belem is a beautiful place with lots of natural beauty to explore. During this visit I was able to hike in Utinga Park and go to a great restaurant on the Amazon in Il do Combu. I spent a lot of time at the two main malls and at the Estacos de Docas especially at Amazon Beer which has amazing foods. There are great Amazonian dishes to be found all over Belem. The people were friendly and I did not have any issues getting around either by walking or via uber.

Clean rooms..everyday! Breakfast was good. Great variety and enough for all. English speaking staff...very important! We stayed 30min from the city, but close to the airport and a great shopping mall (10-15mins). There is also a supermarket & shopping mall in walking distance.
Tip: always use certified taxi's. I forgot my phone in the taxi coming from the airport...and he returned it back to the hotel! We even made a taxi friend.. when in Belem, reach out to Edilson (55 91980903712) Great guy!
In general the hotel is nice, feels a bit run down could use a face lift, the room I was in had a great view but had a weird smell, the air conditioner leaked on the floor and was hard to regulate, the view was great of the park, the general area is lively and right in the middle of the city centre, it's ok for the price you pay which is cheaper than other hotels in that category
Good location in the historical center of Belem, as a solo female traveller I felt quite safe walking during daytime. The wifi was strong and suitable for video calls. There are amazing açai producers next door, I still dream about their açai!
Staff are fantastic, despite the presence of the Brazilian National Football Team in the hotel, they were very helpful and attentive! The owner is very visible. Great location. Great restaurant.
