The free breakfast was OK. Nothing special, but it was a good buffet breakfast. The room was good - we had a pet room, but it was clean and comfortable.

This was our 3rd year in this hotel and doubt i will ever stay anywhere else, when we visit Duncan. We gave ourself an extra day on this trip to do more exploring around the hotel. It's usually very quiet at this location, but we were woken up to seals barking off the docks. We didn't have a balcony, but were able to move chairs to the balcony sized doors and have coffee to watch the seals swim and play.

Duncan is best experienced outside of town for trails lakes and nature in general. Try an AirBnb. There are a few within 20 minutes or so from town in beautiful settings. To Eat, go to Romeo's. I had one of the award winning pizzas, and it didn't disappoint

Sadly, this town seems quite depressed, with little that was visually appealing, and many homeless folks wandering the streets. Seems to be a good jumping point, to get fuelled up, get groceries, do laundry etc, before continuing to stay elsewhere.

The Cowichan Valley region (incl.
The Cowichan Valley region (incl. Duncan, Cowichan Bay, Cowichan Lake, Chemainus, Ladysmith.) has restored, sweet, old towns with plenty of outdoor informative signs, images, murals about local history, walking, cycling and equestrian trails to renovated trestle bridges (Kinsol Trestle is the biggest and most impressive one), the best river tubing in the pristine water of the Cowichan river, clean lakes with nice beaches for swimming, ecotourism with wineries, cideries, distilleries and breweries, all in beautiful settings. Don't miss the Hand of Man museum in Mill's Bay. Easily explored within 4 days with a car. All the municipalities are easily explored on foot. We were never disappointed with the food either and they have gluten free options everywhere on the menus.

The room was clean, the staff was super kind, and although the motel isn’t located in the best part of Duncan, I felt completely safe on the nights I was there by myself as a female. Air conditioning worked well. The room was freshly painted and renovated all except the bathroom which was still in fine clean working order.
Carrie, at the front desk, was so friendly and helpful. She helped suggest nearby restaurants to go to for breakfast and explained hotel damage deposit rules very clearly. Everything was done with courtesy and efficiency. She accommodated our friend by changing from a second floor room to a ground floor room.
The breakfast was great and she even made us a pot of English Breakfast tea. We liked her garden and lovely to sit out there and watch the birds and the local possum. We particularly liked that it wasn’t smack bang in the middle of tourists hotels etc. It was nice and quiet.
House was cosy, room was clean/nice, bathroom was clean/large. Hosts were very nice, helpful. Stay was incredible. Proximity to Cowichan bay, wineries, road to Duncan or Victoria was OK by car. Finally this quiet place was incredible qnd better than expected. Recommended.
