Getting around was easy.

Nanaimo is ok but there are much nicer places to stay on...
Nanaimo is ok but there are much nicer places to stay on Vancouver Island. There is a lot of homelessness and not as much to do here as elsewhere. It was a rest stop before an early ferry. There are some seedy sections of Nanaimo.
There are some seedy sections of Nanaimo. Rough areas to avoid. We did find a rejuvinated section of the city which was beautifil with cute shops and restaurants. Lights strung at night. We dined there at an absolutely lovely greek restaurant called Asteras. Anyone visiting Nanimo needs to go there! We had the feeling of being in a different country. I live near Nanaimo. Why would one come to Nanaimo?
I live near Nanaimo. Why would one come to Nanaimo? We do for the shopping. Maybe to the inner harbour and walk the boardwalk, have lunch, go whale watching or take a scenic float plane ride. Nanaimo is a great city.
Nanaimo is a great city. Has incredible views of the bay and mountain range. Very friendly people. I happened upon a lovely kitchen store, Maison Cookware & Bakeware, that has an incredible selection of quality kitchenware. I spent some time talking to the owner, Julia House. She was a wealth of information on everything in her store. She said they will soon be opening a tableware store in the same complex. Definitely a stop for every cook!Guest review byMarilynneCanada
