The room was very dusty. Dust was flying in the air. This was quite disturbing. However, it was not a bright and spacious room as it appeared in the pictures. I did not expect such a low quality room despite such a high price in terms of price performance. The only good thing was that the hotel was located close to the train station.
The Essential by Dorint Basel City enjoys a quiet location next to the Messe Basel fairgrounds, close to the airport, and within easy reach of the center.

I had my birthday celebrated during the stay at this hotel and the staff made my day! Everyone worked together, from the receptionist, the chef and the ladies assuring the breakfast service to surprise me with a cake, with candles and even with a toy as a gift from the entire team! These people are amazing and their collective really makes you feel like home away from home.I would like to thank to Alex Chirita especially, for being so friendly on arrival, such a good guide recommending places to visit, he was so kind to plan the birthday surprise and take care to have the exact candles as my birthday age. The attention to details waa a top notch!
The location next to the bus station connecting the hotel with the train station and city center it's a big plus!
Also, the breakfast's options are so variated and for everyone's taste, always having fresh products.
The room was perfectly clean, and bigger than the usual in Basel, the cleaning done everyday with attention and taking care of the personal belongings in the room.
The friendliest staff I've encountered in a long time during so many years of travel!

At the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is an eclectic mix of historic and modern, tranquil and vibrant, with Swiss cleanliness and efficiency thrown in for good measure.
Augusta Raurica, on the outskirts, has a well-preserved Roman theater, while the Old Town is a museum of medieval buildings. The Renaissance Town Hall looks down on Marktplatz’s daily market, while the red sandstone and colorful tiles of the Münster were reconstructed in the 19th century. Bringing it right up to date are the modern creations of city residents Herzog & De Meuron, designers of London’s Tate Modern.
When you’ve finished exploring this architectural heritage, there are still plenty of things to do in Basel. The city’s fine art museum is the world’s oldest art collection, and the zoo is the oldest and largest in Switzerland. Remember to bring plenty of Swiss francs for the shopping mile along Clarastrasse and Freiestrasse.
The Basel accommodations on Booking.com range from hotels in Grossbasel to B&Bs in Kleinbasel, home to the nightlife. If you’re flying into Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport in February or March, you might just catch Fasnacht, Switzerland’s biggest carnival. You’ll have to get up early to catch the 4 am start, though!
Much better than I had anticipated. I loved walking along the Rhein into the city centre. It was fun to 'border hop'. We went to France (pleasant evening walk along the Rhein) and Germany (a short tram ride and walk through woods and along water). Some places you go to you think "it's lovely here" but then you feel you have 'done' it and would be happy to return but not bothered. With Basel, I really want to go back again -maybe at a different time of year. It's a lovely city. People were friendly and there was just something about being on a large river (even though it's narrower here than other places). Trams are plentiful and cover the city and are free with a Basel card. There are few cars so the air quality is good. We went to Fondation Beyerlee art gallery museum for a really interesting exhibition (half price with Basel Card as are so many other attractions). We had fun at the Jacob Leckerly tour and bought lots of lovely leckerly biscuits - and a leckerly beer! Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options in restaurants.

We had only one day in Basel. It was too short.
We had only one day in Basel. It was too short. The hop on hop off bus tour really helped us see and understand more about the city. We will probably go back so that we can visit the places pointed out to us during the tour. We arrived on the last day of Fasnach so enjoyed seeing that.

We loved the city walks, the food and nature around.
We loved the city walks, the food and nature around. Kudos to the team at Basel Cathedral. It was such a nice experience! You can get to the top of the Gothic cathedral and admire the view of Basel. There are a lot of stairs to do and need to squeeze a little :)
The hiking experience in Wasserfallen was amazing! Beautiful views from the cable car and did a two hours hiking in the nature. Amazing.
The city is also great, very clean and safe. It is very easy to connect to/from the city. Trains, buses and trams are always on time and running every minute. What we love about Basel is that it allows you to get to Germany or France in just a bus ride, but you need to remember to bring your passport with you!!!
In Basel, there are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants, where to eat local food. There are also lots of museums and monuments around. It feels like art is everywhere!
Finally, we spoke English and Italian all the time but if you know German is even better! Recommend this city!

My favourite was the University Botanical Gardens, especially its rainforest greenhouse. Not to be missed! Altstadt is a nice place to walk around. View from the Pfalz is great and so are the Tinguely fountains - the latter an engineering brilliance. While talking a stroll along the Rheinweg don't forget to cross the bridge and enjoy a drink/dessert at the Xocolatl.

Comfortable room within walking distance of Basel old town. Staff were friendly and communciations prior to stay were excellent. Value for money overnight for those travelling through Switzerland
Friendly staff. Easy access to trams, walking distance to old town and restaurants. Good value for money in Switzerland. Bright yellow towels bring charm to basic room. Heated floors in bathroom.
A different concept by the river. The staff is very polite. I think the breakfast was quite good for Switzerland. It is very easy to get to from the train station by tram.
It has 2 very comfy double beds, v good kitchen, and a perfect living room, with a dining table. Insanely good value for money… especially for Switzerland!
